What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Really? A newer generation of fans? Are you referring to those who grew up on the Kelvin-verse movies, or perhaps even those who started watching in 2017?

Or are you referring to the segment of the fanbase who grew up with first-run TNG through ENT and consider that era of the franchise to be the "one true Star Trek" - anything beforehand seen as not quite so good and anything afterwards an unbridled heresy!

Because that segment of fandom is now 20+ years old and therefore the previous generation

"Newer generation of fans"? *SNORT!* I grew up watching TOS in re-runs in the 70s, saw TAS, TNG, and DS9 when they originally aired, have seen all the movies, *AND* love Lower Decks, DISCO and PIC. I'm going to give VOY and ENT another chance one of these days and I'm looking forward to Prodigy and SNW. I am a Proud Trekkie, baby!

Yes! Star Trek is what you make it. If you're a stickler about what the creators wanted and follow the good word of Roddenberry, good for you! If you're not and don't care about that kind of stuff, that's also cool! For me, I care way more about the characters and their interactions with each other than the actual plotline of episodes. I love creating art and writing stories, expanding on the Star Trek universe, and adding my own personal touches. It's fun for me, and I don't care if other's don't feel the same, because that doesn't matter in the end. If I'm having a good time, why should I care what someone else thinks?

But perhaps the biggest one between myself and perhaps a newer generation of fans is that anything after Voyager is basically non-Trek and I personally don't consider it canon, especially the aptly initialized STD.

Voyager is "old school" now? That sure makes me feel old. I'm 42, BTW, and became a fan over 30 years ago.

Fun fact, Clayton Ravine was named after Clayton, Missouri - a suburb of St. Louis. Bob Gale, co-writer and co-producer of the Back to the Future films grew up in University City, the next suburb over (and the one that I am originally from) and likes to throw in U. City references into his movies. Clayton was the home town of both James Franciscus and Andy Cohen (in fact, I've been dating a woman who was a classmate of Cohen's). U. City gave the world me - hey, what more do you want - but, also Dave Garroway, John Hartford, Howard Nemerov, Stanley Elkin and Nelly. Not to mention, Alex Winter went to Junior High here for a year when I was there.

It always makes me chuckle when I hear Spock in WNMHGB complaining that Kirk made an illogical move (that won the game) especially after Spock announced that Kirk would be checkmated the next move. What a dumb thing to say! The most logical move in a chess game is the one that wins! That's what you get when you have writers that don't understand how Chess works.

Firstly, the scene highlights that Spock is not infallible, and secondly, he has an ego that wants to show off to the lesser humans. He's not ready for higher command, yet.
