Like a 'what if...' People better start getting used to these different takes, it is about all Hollywood has got left.
No, it's what most of human creativity has always consisted of, from Ancient Greek plays based on mythology to Shakespeare plays based on previous literature and history to the countless movies over the decades based on books, plays, or true stories. The idea that Hollywood doing new variations on old stories is somehow a recent trend has been around for literally almost as long as Hollywood has existed, and it's as much a load of crap now as it was when I heard people saying it 30 years ago.
Not to mention that many of the films recognized among the greatest movies ever made are adaptations of previous works. Casablanca? A play. Citizen Kane? A real person's life. The Godfather? A novel. And so on. What matters isn't where an idea came from. It's where you take it from there.
