Destination Star Trek London 2021

Fantastic!
What uniform do you have? And which photo shoots did you choose?
First Contact command uniform.

If I remember rightly - Marina Sirtis, Andrew Robertson, Robert Picardo (I'm 100% going to accidently call him Richard Woolsley at some point)

Awesome! I have a TNG captain's uniform but still haven't decided on the photos.

Just seen some cancellations announced on Twitter for

ethan Phillips
Robert Picardo
Robert Duncan McNeil
Doug Jones

all have been announced for 2022 destination Star Trek on 30/9/22

I was 50/50 about going as I’m still worried about COVID so I may just wait till next year now.

Oh no I was actually going to get photos with Robert Picardo and Doug Jones

Robert Beltran also announced on Twitter last night that he cancelled months ago.
Showmasters have yet to announce this themselves, and are still taking money for his photoshoots...

Yeah, really not a good look for Showmasters. Also pretty annoyed my Doug Jones shoot has just been moved to 2022 rather than a refund or indeed a voucher to use at this year's event.

Kidding?! Surely they should be refunding or transferring as credit for this year as who is to say you can actually attend next time

Showmasters are not covering themselves in glory here. I get that they probably need to make x money from sales to run the event, especially after two years of cancelled events, but fans are getting shafted. It isn't a good look. Vouchers for this year's event would be better for the canceled photoshoots than moving them to next year in the hope of squeezing you for another entrance fee.

I wasn't going to go anyway this year, traveling to a hall with lots of people from all over the country is a bit high risk for me, but this isn't good for those who were.

If I couldn't literally see the Excel from my window I'd be pissed off about the changes for sure.

As it is, I do t exactly have far to go so it is more palatable but I feel for those who have made arrangements to travel significant distances and who may be let down by this

It seems it may be worth waiting until last moment with buying photo shoots.
At least for people who haven't purchased them already...

I'll be honest, even before the pandemic I was irritated they decided to move it (back) to London. As a West Country bumpkin, having a major con in Birmingham was really nice and a big money saver. It basically meant that LFCC and DST became an either/or for me financially, instead of both. Of course, we decided to have a global pandemic instead so it was neither, but still. They've already announced DST 2022 will be London again. From my perspective, a shame. I hoped they'd at least alternate.

I think the cancellations are understandable considering a) they're all working actors who (mainly) live in the States and b) due to Covid it's always possible that they'll have to miss the con due to contracting it. I think DST as an event also has a hard job as, being a designated Trek con, there aren't many big Trek names who live in the UK, which considering travel and Covid is no doubt a headache. It's a bit different from multi-fandom events that have gone ahead recently as there are a fair few sci-fi/fantasy actors across all the franchises who are UK based.

My main issue with DST is with the way they're doing refunds. I figured it would be a voucher system and so only booked a few as I figured even if all three of the ones I paid for pulled out I could use the funds for other actors I'd like shoots with. The fact they also sat on cancellations and still let people buy shoot tickets for ages isn't on either in my opinion. I'm going to contact them to see if I can at least get a voucher for the amount for the Doug Jones shoot.

I think they've really screwed the pooch re customer relations on this. I said on a FB group that the big issue with pushing the shoots over to 2022 is that you have to buy a ticket for next year to access the things you've already paid for. Plus, there's no 100% guarantee an actor will be there anyway so who's to say they won't push it to 2023 eventually? I think giving attendees these two options would be fair as they wouldn't harm the organisers financially - a) the shoot moved to 2022 with a complementary three day ticket thrown in, b) credit to use at the event for photos or autographs. I'd have been happy with that personally. So yeah, in short, no issue with the cancellations as these things happen but definitely some shady business practices going on.

Ultimately I imagine it'll harm them in the long run as no one will buy anything in advance going forward. It seems we're stuck with Covid for the foreseeable so they really need to look at how they do things. I also think selling big shoots with the key players from a cast is unwise in the current era as there's no guarantee they'll be there.

Oh yeah, cancellations come with the territory - there is a reason most people know the phrase "card subject to change".

My gripe is with the late notice, the potential misselling that it seems may have occurred, and the pushing back to 2022 rather than offering credit to use for the event.

I’ve emailed asking them for a voucher for the amount of the Doug Jones Captain Chair shoot. No reply as of yet - wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an announcement/backtrack tonight along with the new guests, especially considering the lack of refunds was a major issue for Robert Beltran (and rightly so!).

If they aim to try for UK based guests, I’d love to see either of the following:
- Jason Isaacs - not only a name in Star Trek but also Harry Potter.
- David Warner - absolutely love his performance as the Doctor in the Big Finish Doctor Who audios.

I’d say the way for the organisers to go is to get British actors with Trek connections with big credentials in other franchises. Won’t please everyone but it’s a way to ensure the event goes ahead. I’ve also seen John Rhys-Davies suggested on Facebook - love Lord of the Rings so would be great to see him there. Plus, would fit with the Voyager theme - the Janeway/Da Vinci stuff is one of the main things that comes to mind when I think of Voyager.

Some new guests announced

Major Kira
Rom
Cmdr Shelby
Lt cmdr Detmer
Phlox
Mary chieffo
Martha hacker who played trul in ds9
Lee stringer digital artist for voyager

I’m pretty sure most of these people have done a DST before in the uk, but it maybe of interest to some still not enough to pull me to DST.

I’m not sure if there are any more voyager guest stars they could add to make up for the cancellations the other day, it’s a shame as I was hoping for a massive voyager celebration

That's not a bad replacement lineup.

Doubt they would do it with how they have treated refunds but I'd swap out Picardo for credit against Vistor.

Hopefully things will come together one way or another.

Shelby is interesting. I’m a big fan of her character from the New Frontier series. I know the actress has nothing to do with that but she would be a fun to hear from.
I wonder if I could get her to sign my New Frontier hardback? It’ll make it different.
