Should they kill a main character like Saru this year?

Generations was written in 1993, between the sixth and seventh seasons of TNG. It wouldn't even make sense to plan to destroy the Enterprise at the end DS9 Season 2, if it was already going to be in a movie scheduled to be released six months later.

That's crazy. Did they not know a TNG movie was coming? I guess maybe I could see it in their mind not knowing about the movie and assuming the TNG crew would also guest star and their would be some kind of passing the torch moment basically saying. "TNG is done. It's now DS9's time to become main Trek."

The show needs more Detmer and less Burnham.

    A lot less.

A future Enterprise. No future Enterprise.
Burnham is the main character. What you want is illogical.

At this point it's to late to replace Burnham even if it made the show better. People who like the show like her thus they won't understand why they are getting ride of the character and the show is now old enough it's hard to bring in a large group of new fans. That's why even though I think the show would be better with a new series lead I also would understand if I was in charge that it would be more pragmatic to improve the show by shifting the format around. I listed a few examples but of course their are tons of other ways to go as well. The idea of bringing them to the future was actually a good idea but they really didn't maximize the potential. I will toss another in and that is destroy the ship. Create a new ship for next season. A ship though that is unique by Star Trek standards.

And completely alienate everyone in the process.

They have already jiggered the formula from the original Discovery. How much more tinkering do you do until you have completely ruined it for every single person who might have enjoyed it? Already Discovery is pushing me, a fan from the beginning, away by putting Burnham in as captain. The ship design was already "way too unique" for a Star Trek ship and I hate the look of the Discovery to this day. At this point the Federation President and the unique anomaly are the few hooks bringing me back to this show. And now I get another "Kill Burnham" thread to make it more interesting. SMH.

I do kind of like the Federation President guy. In away he is sort of the Admiral Ross of the show in that he sorts of represents the voice of the Federation to the regulars ad the actor is good and all. What is about the anomaly that intrigues you? I mean Trek has had a billion of those it seems. We even had season 3 of Enterprise exist almost the whole season in one with The Expanse.

Never watched the Expanse so cannot comment on that particular storyline.

The anomaly is an interesting idea because I feel echoes of the Romulan supernova as well as the Discovery is doing what it can do-use the spore drive potentially to explore something unknown. If that ends up being the case then I will feel like it is equally parts the Kelvans from TOS, the supernova from 09 and the journey to the center of the galaxy in TFF. It has so much potential, to misquote Q (as he well deserves).

The president of the Federation, in this time period, is female (appears to be part Cardassian).

If you mean Kovich (David Cronenberg's character), he's not the president.

That's correct. I meant Admiral Vance. Kind of brain fart on my part.

It would be hard to make a novel death scene with him, though I would love for Vance to be killed by the anomaly so we can see more of the 32nd Federation admiralty.

It would work but I kind of wonder how he is going to function on the show. If the ship is in deep space and he is back at Starfleet Headquarters. He could only be in the opening and final episode of the season. Admiral Forrest basically disappeared for season 3 of Enterprise because they were in The Expanse. I do wonder if multiple ships will be going into this mission and maybe they will bump into each other out their and maybe he is on one of those other ships. Perhaps even the one with the Ferengi Captain.

Looking at season 4 episode 1, they will never kill off Saru. At most he will just join his home world council.

And Detmer let's not ruin the show altogether.
I don't think a member of the crew should be killed just to make an "anything can happen" kind of statement but if someone was to die the way Culber or Ariam did and I fit the plot then fine

Burnham made a point of mentioning that his family were back aboard the station. Could that be a foreshadow
