Spoilers Cerritos captain

eschaton

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Putting a spoiler tag on this because I know some people may not have seen the season finale yet. But with Captain Freeman arrested, someone else is undoubtedly going to be brought in as the guest captain, at least for a couple of episodes.

I have thought long and hard about who would make the best captain, presuming the writers wanted to go the route of using an established character. Who would be around the right level (say commander) to be temporarily assigned a ship? Who would be a famous face that the lower deckers would act starstruck around? And who would be excellent in a comedic role - preferably as something of a "straight man" stick in the mud compared to the zaniness which surrounds him.

The only logical answer I can come up with is...Captain Worf!

Let Michael Dorn live out his dream, even if just for two episodes.

Tried to make the thread title even more vague, because I felt the way you phrased it might have spoiled to some that there's something up with Freeman's captaincy.

I'm still holding out hope that Worf is Captain of the Enterprise-E, although he might takeover in a Pike-esque way.

It's likely, though, that they'll pull a Sonya Gomez and pick some random Ensign or Lieutenant from the Berman era and make them Captain now. Someone Jellico-esque (but not Jellico, who should be retired or an Admiral now). Perhaps Sam Lavelle from the original Lower Decks?

Worf and La Forge are strong possibilities.

If they want someone for Mariner to bump heads against, they might go for a by-the-book Jellico-type.

Long shot might be Ezri Dax or Tuvok.

Ugh I really don't want Worf...his only joke would be that he'd get annoyed by the antics of the Cerritos crew and he'd pout and grumble a lot. That's the extend of Worf's comedic potential.

Too bad they killed off that neurotic captain from Season 1, she might have been fun.
Toough.. speaking of Neurotic... How about Barcley?
But honestly, I'd prefer an original character.

Captain Ramsey, Mariner's friend who took over as temporary Captain in season 1.
Based on comments Mike McMahan has made in interviews, the intent in the episode with Ramsey was that her and Mariner were romantically involved in the past. And given McMahan has revealed they are going to be developing a relationship between Mariner and Jennifer in the third season, it might be interesting to have Mariner dealing with one relationship while her ex is now her Captain.
