What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Controversial opinions? Goggles ON!

Discovery sucks because it tries too hard to preach and push the opinions of the day rather than present the issue and let the audience decide. Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham sucks as well because in my opinion she was a terrible choice for the role. Plenty of other actresses could do/could have done a better job.

The above statements are my OPINIONS. Yours may be very different from mine and that's cool. There's no wrong way to enjoy this thing we call Star Trek.

That just means they don't care about who gets to be labeled Sector 001 or acknowledge that the UFP has their own Cartographical Standards that can co-exist with their own.
Honestly, what would have been more fun is to grid out the Federation territory on a map of the galaxy, and set 001 as the furthest corner sector in the territory, just to annoy everyone.

In my head canon, the old radial cylinder maps system has been made "Obsolete" and a Cube style generic "Google Maps"-like map system was designed for the general UFP usage that is easier to understand.

Since the Thin Disk portion of the Milky Way is ~ 100,000 ly in Diameter, and the rest of the Milky Way is much THICC-er and WIDER, it made sense for the public to have a map using cubes to sub divide everything by using a simple 3D Cartessian Coordinate system

The image above is obviously a "NOT TO SCALE" illustration of the side profile of the Milky Way Galaxy.

"Sector 001" became the UFP Explored Section coordinate on the map with a large chunk of the 3D Milky Way still unexplored.

Not enough Explorers go Vertical for some reason.

Yeah, in a way it's like running zero degrees longitude through Greenwich, England. Or counting AD 1/1 AD/1 CE from the year Jesus was supposedly born in. We still use these systems, even if we aren't British or Christian.

Of course, cultural imperialism has been present in the Federation to some degree all along in Star Trek, and attention was drawn to it in TUC, even if somewhat ham-fistedly [http://www.chakoteya.net/movies/movie6.html].

CHEKOV: We do believe all planets have a sovereign claim to inalienable human rights.
AZETBUR: Inalien... If only you could hear yourselves? 'Human rights.' Why the very name is racist. The Federation is no more than a 'homo sapiens' only club.
