Wow, I never expected an animation series to be the best current Star Trek one.
They made me care for the crew and the ship (I am looking at you Disco) and I genuinely can't wait for next season.
And for me it is more than obvious that the people behind Lower Decks love and respect Star Trek.
And yeah, it is possible to make nice refreshing ST new series based on the old material without trying to impress using irrelevant elements borrowed by other Peak TV era shows.
Thanks Lower Decks for restoring my faith on Star Trek.
    To be continued. :)

Never expected to see an episode which had both a First Contact (the process in which they removed the hill panels) and a Into Darkness (the heads up display on Ransom’s helmet) reference in it.
I just wish we got a little more Riker and the Titan this season. Especially from the “real” Boilmer.

After another watch, I really love Rutherford's memory dilemma. It's basically a commentary on hoarding, being unwilling to part with things for the simplest memories.

TV Tropes link. It seems incredibly common for "word of God" to just mean the producers/creators/writers (AKA The Powers That Be). I don't think anyone would confuse it for blasphemy or heresy.

Yeah that’s what I meant. I’m so used to hearing ‘word of god’ in regards to ‘stuff people making something have said about that thing’ that I didn’t even register how strange it sounds without context.

Ok wow, a lot to unpack here. I'm going 9

    notes:
ok, I'm waiting for the sad day after Christmas feeling to hit me till season 3 gets here.
Sonya Gomez! Wow, didn't expect them to bring back her character nice nod to her cocoa incident with Picard
love the Obena class, it's good to keep those older designs around.
Are there children on the Cerritos? I didn't think The Cerritos was large enough to be able to have families
    Someone is getting promoted
More Mariner contraband, weirdo with a riding crop LOL
Tendi loves fajitas. They eat a lot of Mexican food on the Cerritos, I've noticed that.
Billups becoming obsessed with a waitress, he may be ace, but he's noticing women. And way to outburst there bud.
The exiting spacedock music was beautiful
I agree, you're not a Kirk, Mariner. And what happened to you to make you this way?
Gomez is a hands on Captain, it suits her Geordi taught her well
Captains yacht, hadn't seen that since Insurrection
I love Rutherford and Tendi's friendship, and saving three copies of his memories of her.
If you cant keep making new memories, does it matter
removing the hull - inventive solution Cerritos Strong! That should be an option for the Cerritos model kit
Section 31 is definitely behind Rutherfords implant.
Cetacean Ops, never thought we'd see it, or the horny for Rutherford Whales
Boimler stands up to Mariner, Tendi too!
Freeman getting First Contact duties after all
    Jenifer and Mariner new friends?
So Pakled planet is no more. C'mon, everyone knows they blew up their own planet. Freeman being arrested was a twist we didn't see coming. I was for sure someone was dying this episode. But this was probably a bigger impact.

    Predictions for season 3:
    Rutherford loses his implant
New Cerritos Captain, you guessed it, Frank Stallone. No seriously it's going to be Jellico. if Mike McMahan is bringing back Sonya Gomez, they why not Jellico. They hauled him out of retirement or something.
Section 31 is behind Pakled Planet, and maybe they're recruiting Freeman, or she's a scapegoat

Ok Mariner - Bi for sure
    Boimler - Straight
Rutherford - i'm going with Straight too, he went on dates with Barnes, and he confessed that he thinks Tendi is cute in the initial Badgey episode
Tendi - possibly bi, but i'm leaning towards straight as well. Some episode 1st season she mentions how she thinks a certain male crewmember was "a Snack."
    Jennifer - maybe bi
Barnes - She's Trill but I don't know if she's conjoined or not. if her previous host was male or not.

I can't believe it took me this long to notice Jennifer the Andorian doesn't have purely white hair.

This statement shows an astonishing lack of understanding as it applies to basic cyber security. The only truly secure system in existence is one that is air-gapped and turned off.

Or was that another one of those "joke" things I've read about?
    Dafuq is an "Ace"?

Hey, what's the ship model visible on Sonya Gomez's ready room shelf?

At first I thought it was Sabre-class, which would have made it a nice litverse tie-in with her history on the U.S.S. da Vinci. But on closer inspection I don't think it is.

    Did anyone recognize it?

    It's short for asexual.

Asexual or "Ace" - someone who does not experience any sexual attraction to other people, and who does not see Sex as an essential part to relationships. (Not all Asexuals are Sex-Negative or Sex-Repulsed FYI)

It wasn't a joke, it was an observation about Star Trek. Enemies in Star Trek rarely hack.

    That was an Akira.

Also that wasn't Sonya's ready room, it was the Admiral's office.

thinking about it, this isn’t as far fetched as it might seem (in most cases): to hack a system you need to be familiar with it, even the best Linux hacker would have their issues finding vulnerabilities on a windows system without previous knowledge, or even on another unix, such as macOS. In fact, even if you are very familiar with a version of the OS you’d have issues doing the same hacky things on a more recent or older version.

Back around 2005 I wrote portableosx, a program that let you install a stripped down version of Mac OS X 10.4 on a USB stick. A lot of unorthodox stuff there to modify the system and of course when 10.5 came out the system had changed a lot and I had to do a massive rewrite…By now a similar task would be basically impossible (and useless, since USB sticks are big enough to contain the whole OS anyway) thanks to the many security features apple added.

Anyway, and pardon for the detour, if it’s difficult hacking a human system you don’t know much about imagine doing it on something totally alien.

And yes, Independence Day is fun but bollocks.

I rather expected to have heard a few bars of the "Hallelujah" chorus when Sean talked about Cetatean Ops (the department aboard the vessel, not his tally of callbacks). Missed opportunity I say.

This may be the last example of computer hacking I remember from Trek unless we count Control in DSC:

Maybe to some, but the Asexual people I know (I am from the UK) would recognise the term "Ace" used in that way.
