It's been a while since I was on trekbbs.com with any regularity. So, hi again. :-) But I came here just now because I wanted to see if I was the only one that really enjoyed this show. I'm so happy it seems others enjoy it as well. To be honest, I've been viewing the show as a guilty pleasure, thinking most other Trek fans wouldn't like it. But I'm glad it's not just me. :-) What allows it to be so enjoyable, imo, is that it is animated. If it were live action, many of the references or characters or whatever would just seem kind of forced and out of place (a la Cochrane saying "star trek" in First Contact). But being animated, it can get away with a lot more. Just my 2 cents...
I haven’t watched it since the first episode of season 1. I felt like there was a small grain of a good storyline in there, but that it was buried underneath all the annoying unfunny jokes, frenetic pacing, and the main character who is yet another CBSAA Star Trek Mary Sue, IMHO. Granted, I felt similar when I saw the teasers for The Orville. The jokes were stupid, the show looked like a TNG ripoff/crappy parody, and as much as I like Seth McFarlane, it felt like it was just a vehicle for a live-action Family Guy in space. But after actually watching it, it turned out that the show was superior to new Trek in every way.
I haven't gotten into the series. I was a bit put off by the gory bits in some of the clips online. That's not really my cup of tea. Kor
Agree. Having been gifted with a year of Paramount+ (yay ), I am checking out the offerings. I found the first ep a bit off-putting but the series does get better.
I loved the first episode but that's me. Also, if you don't like your gift I would be happy to take it off your hands. Just saying.
