with his obsession with finding the lost signal from his people

As with a lot of things on the show, that didn't really feel earned, and was thrown in with barely any build up. He was acting like the model captain and then all of a sudden he was putting the crew in danger in the nebula. The Tilly as XO thing is more down to bad writing than them wanting to show his poor decision making, especially since she ended up doing well in the role.

The ship was captured almost immediately after she was left in command. Even Osyrra noted this.

Might have been before my time; I only ever remember Trek being on at 11pm or midnight in the '90s, interspersed with ads for phone sex lines.
This would have been around 1992. I was 10 at the time and one of my earliest trek related memories is watching 'Booby Trap' on a overcast winter saturday afternoon. But yes I do remember all the Star Treks being relegated to midnight timeslots later on

I watched new episodes of TNG and then DS9 on Saturdays at 7:00pm, in Boston.

VOY was on UPN, Mondays at 8:00pm on UPN on TV-38, before it got moved to Wednesdays at 9:00pm. Sometimes it would get pre-empted by Hockey and then would air on another night. Ironically, I ended up recording Hockey games for a living from 2017 to 2019, for a streaming service.

Reruns of TNG were shown on weeknights at 6:00 and 7:00 on three different channels in my area. Sometimes, during the summer, those stations would switch to showing TOS instead, before going back to TNG in the fall.

CBS was airing season 1 DISCO earlier this year. I think it was 9pm, after primetime.

I honestly don't remember when and where TNG aired when it was new. I think it might've been 7pm on Sundays.

That seems to be the case with a lot of first shows on a streaming platform. Daredevil felt similarly to me, and the pacing felt very much like a full episode altogether, rather than episodes in of themselves.
