Spoilers There will never be Ferengi in DISCO

A Ferengi with pointed ears?

Sure, it's a call back to the original design, but the lack of connection between the lobes and the eyebrows makes it look more like a mixed-species type.

We are, again, talking about incredibly minor variations in phenotype. You would rightfully never imagine that a differently-shaped eye or nose would make someone a different species from yours, so why assume that equally minor variations in appearance in fictional aliens must signify a different species or hybridization?

Ya maybe he is half Ferengi or disfigured or a Ferengi of a different ethnicity but whats the bloody point

Because Star Trek is a work of art, and the artists liked it this way. What's the point of always doing things the same? Why are you so upset by minor changes?

just make a Ferengi looking Ferengi for the sake of the quick shot

The Ferengi look Ferengi.

Not a huge fan of the redesign. No problem with redesigning things in general, but overall this guy kind of looks more generic alien with big ears. Like if the Ferengi had only been animated previously, and some artist was like, 'what if Ferengi, but realistic!' kind of thing. They made similar stylistic changes as they did with the Andorians and Terrelians with texturing the skin and making more interesting looking angles and what not, but I feel like this was not as much of a success as those redesign; Andorians in particular look great. The lack of connection from the lobes to the brow as pointed out above is something that I feel is required for that unique Ferengi look. Not just big ears, but so big that their structure takes up large portions of the face. And the BUTT forehead! I feel like this is a miss. Like if they had done the redesign of the Andorians but also made their antenna like..I dunno, too fat and floppy. This guy looks fine, but he doesn't look amazing.

No wonder Discovery has been cancelled so many times!

For whatever it's worth, I personally hate the little eyebrow/forehead things they added to the Andorians in DIS. I much prefer the ENT-era design.

But, hey, my reaction is subjective and not every artistic decision is gonna match with my sense of aesthetics. I'd still rather DIS's creators experiment and try new things and not be imprisoned by what ST did in the past, and if that means sometimes they make artistic decisions that clash with my aesthetics, so be it. :)

Kind of like "What if the Ferengi were in a Ninja Turtles movie?" Especially those newer ones. I haven't seen them -- to me none of them will ever top the original movie from 1990 -- but I've seen pictures and that Ferengi wouldn't look out of place next to those new Michael Bay Ninja Turtles. ;)

A minor phenotypical variation it’s this ferengi skin color, which nobody discussed because it’s minor and expected. I think the brow-lobe bridge is a structural part of the ferengi face, like the ears, the nose, and the teeth (which in this ferengi look like regular human teeth).

Anyway, since there is a clear inspiration over the original Ferengi design, there’s a far more important question to be put: Will this Ferengi use a codpiece over the uniform? :)

The Ferengi redesign is bad.

Wow, just wow. I don’t understand their need to redesign everything.

I liked Disco season 1 decently enough. Really enjoyed most of season 2. Season 3 was terrible.

This trailer for season 4 didn’t interest me at all. I’d rather they cancel the show and focus on Picard, LDS, Prodigy, and Section 31.

"I don't like Discovery so it should be cancelled and people who do enjoy it should be denied the opportunity to do so in favour of the shows I do like/tolerate"

Shitty attitudes like this are what I hate most about Trek fandom. I detest all of the CW Arrowverse shows but there are tons of people who love them. I don't see the point in going into forums just to shit on something that other people enjoy. By all means be critical, Discovery, like all media isn't perfect. But wanting a show to be cancelled just because you don't like it isn't criticism, it's just childish and petty.

Fair enough.

And whining about one fan stating an opinion that differs from your own is something that I dislike about the fandom.

What does wishing it to go away do? Curious.

For one thing, it’s been stated no new shows will be produced until one of the current shows ends. Discovery is the weakest (and most controversial) of the current shows, IMO. The constant need to redesign species is a little lame. But even worse is that every season so far has just been one long universe-ending arc that only Michael can solve (not to mention, these extreme crises aren’t generally well written). Then there’s the truly bizarre creative choices, like making a recently promoted ensign the First Officer.

I liked Georgiou and Section 31 might interest me, depending on the premise. Same with a Starfleet Academy series. Since my personal opinion is that Discovery is the worst Trek series, I’d prefer it end so another show can have a chance.

Others have an opinion different from mine, and that’s cool!

I have no problems with other opinions. Like I said, Discovery isn't perfect and criticism is warranted and welcome. What I take issue with is selfish, gatekeeping fans thinking that because they personally don't enjoy something, it needs to go away.

Grow up and get it into your head that the fandom isn't all about you.

This one continues to baffle me. There's no need here; these are artists wanting to explore within the world. Playing with make up designs, in some fashion, is a Trek tradition at this point.

As to the rest, fair enough, though I think Picard is more controversial. But, at least we have the variety over the one note styles, and more to look forward to besides.

All I said was “I’d rather they cancel the show” and gave statements of opinion.

I never said “IT SHOULD BE CANCELED!!!”

There’s a difference, and you read incorrectly into my statement of personal preference and put words in my mouth. And then you started calling me childish and telling me to grow up.

I always wondered why the Ferengi were an "alliance". Alliance with who? ;)

Alliance of planetary financial institutions.

Correct me if I am wrong but that was the only Andorian we saw in TNG.

Andorian tourist in the same wig in "Captain's Holiday".

(The high wig was made for ST IV, and hid mechanics for moving antennae, but rejected.)

Yep.

SPFX artists don't win awards for slavishly copying decades-old designs. Also: living things evolve. Recent studies of birds have tracked big adaptations in only a few generations.

All I said was “I’d rather they cancel the show” and gave statements of opinion.

That punishes avid fans of that show. You get to ignore the show completely and everyone stays happy.
