Spoilers Y The Last Man

Fair points all. I did forget about the plane crashes. Considering the small amount of women who are commercial pilots these days (better than the past but still not where it needs to be) there would have been several thousand crashes all at once. Considering too, that most first responders are men (again, better now, but still), that leaves precious few women to respond to the emergencies.
 
I may have too high a opinion of women in general, but I find it really hard to believe that they would waste time on such political nonsense after a disaster that could still cause hundreds of millions of deaths. I think even the staunchest supporter of formal procedures would say that certain things can wait after something like this.

I wish I could agree with you, but knowing my mother has convinced me otherwise.
 
First episode finally dropped on Disney Plus. The sister was sure lucky. She kills a guy just before they all die. I bet she is relived. :)

Interesting idea...but..oh well...sod it!
 
I take back what I said about Diana Bang. I'm thrilled to see her name in the opening credits now that Allison has finally showed up. And what an introduction! I don't remember her being that...eccentric...in the comics but I think it's a good fit for her. I loved the hell out of Bang's performance and her immediate conflictive chemistry with Yorick. We're finally getting to the Yorick/355/Allison/Ampersand road trip!

That said, I'm not entirely thrilled with the development of 355 lying to Yorick about contacting his mom. Granted, she withheld things from him about herself and her mission in the comics but something about this particular lie bothers me.

Of course, in the comics it didn't really matter because Jennifer was murdered by Alter fairly early on and we haven't even met Alter yet. Based on the pace of the season, I don't expect we'll see her this season which, in turn, extends Jennifer's lifespan...assuming they kill her off at all.

I am curious about this new side plot with 355 trying to track down her recruiter/mentor. Although that's a little weird because in the comics I believe that was the previous 355 and not someone named Fran. Agent 525 is a new character, too, I believe, and I'm curious if we'll see her again.

Still not all that excited about the politics in DC but at least it's better balanced this time around. However, Regina Oliver is clearly ultra-fringe and that's not something I'm forward to the show spending a lot of time dealing with. Also, they really need to lay off with the obvious Meghan McCain parallels for Kimberly. We get it. She's just like Meghan. You don't need to name drop The View!
 
I am pretty sure that the politics IS the point of this show. So if you're just going to bitch about its inclusion you should stop watching...

I think what we're going to get is a back and forth of episodes focused mainly on just one or two sub-plots, so there will be more DC focused episodes to come, and more roadtrip centric episodes. Indeed, I don't think we saw anything of Hero this week at all, so presumably that'll be coming up in the rotation too.

Honestly I prefer this approach to serialised storytelling than the drip-feed approach, where each and every plot thread and character get's exactly one beat of advancement each per episode, and no more, making each individual episode a bland forgettable smear in the larger seasons long story.
Thankfully this is seeming less and less common and shows rediscover the concept of episodic storytelling that also fits the highly serialised format, but for a while there it was pretty standard in the early days of the binge craze.

Yeah, I'm good with that type of serialized storytelling and it at least balances out the politics, which were too heavy-handed in the first few episodes. Hopefully the show maintains that balance going forward.

Honestly I don't think they were. The show needed to establish the political situation and stakes both before and after the incident before Yorick even gets to DC, and is sent out on their road trip. Given the amount of ground they had to cover in the time they had, I say they were fairly economical.

It feels heavy-handed for those of us who have read the comic.

Yeah, yeah, I know...

But like I said before, my bigger issue is the partisan bickering. If the focus remains in trying to establish a stable government, I'm all for it. But thinly-veiled extreme conservative parallels are both unnecessary and distracting.

I've read the comic, and it feels about right to me. It's a modern adaptation after all, not a period piece and it's not the post 9/11 fearmongering period anymore, it's the crazy stupid and stupid crazy period.
 
Gah, I really hate 355.

Does this story have any turns coming or basically more of this? Not sure about continuing.

Plus the story is playing out more slowly. Hero's current storyline played out behind-the-scenes before she and Yorick see each other again.

In the comics, Hero isn't seen after the Event until Yorick and 355 (I can't even remember if Allison was with them yet or not) encounter Hero and she's fully brainwashed into the Amazon cult. We begin to see glimpses of that brainwashing in this episode, between Hero's fascination with the "rebirthing" ceremony and her confession to Roxanne (which Roxanne will undoubtedly use to emotionally manipulate Hero into their ranks).

My concern, as it has been since this series started, is where does this leave Sam? As we saw in the final scene, there are repercussions for interacting with him. If the series does proceed to have Hero become a fully-fledged Amazon (one breast and all), what happens to Sam? Considering all of the strides the show is making for trans inclusion, it would be a terrible misstep for the series injure or kill Sam as means of pushing Hero into becoming an Amazon. My hope is the series actually diverges from the comics and utilizes Sam as the reason why Hero doesn't become an Amazon, which would be just as well since that particular storyline was one of the weakest ones.

As for the rest of the episode, it was...eh. I'm not particularly fond of the slow pace 355, Yorick, and Allison are making (or the mistrust between them). But considering the chronological placement of Hero's and the absence of Alter, I guess they have to do a lot filler. Or something.

And speaking of Alter...

Considering Alter hasn't even been introduced yet and the extra shifty conversation between Regina and Kimberly, I'm beginning to wonder if Regina and Kimberly will plot to assassinate Jennifer instead of Alter doing the deed.
