The Animals That Aren't Dogs or Cats Thread

A group from the All Seated in a Barn horse and donkey rescue is at a livestock auction in Bowie, Texas right now, and trying to raise money to save as many horses and donkeys as possible, so anybody who can, I'd ask that you please donate. I confess I haven't donated these last couple days, but that is only because I just bought a T-shirt from them a couple weeks ago.

I'm sorry, @JD , although it might be a great cause, you know we don't allow links to fundraising sites. I have removed the link from your post.

Please note that if such a link was in your signature, we typically look the other way.

Does anyone else really struggle dealing with videos/tales of wildlife in the wild? The graphic ones where they are killing their prey?

TW:

I’m having a hard time erasing a story in my mind of two elks that get stuck together and starve to death. I just feel kind of sick about it.

Does this stuff bother anyone else?

Yeah, I try to avoid stuff like that. I know it happens but I'd rather focus on the cute things.

I learned long ago that I can't handle stories like that, so I avoid them at all costs. I'm such a softie for animals; stories like that will upset me for the whole day, so I have learned not to seek them out.

Not at all. I'm not heartless, but it is nature in it's purest form.

I don't look for it, but it doesn't really bother me if I see it in the scope of a documentary. Everything that has ever lived has died or will. once in a rare while I will go squrrel hunting so I have watched a few videos for tips on that. I don't hate squirrels, nor do I enjoy watching them die. But I'm not opposed to eating them, either.

Sorry, didn't realize that was a rule.
I've been following along what they're doing at the auction, and it is truly fucking horrifying and disgusting the condition some of these horses are in. I don't think I could ever go to something like that, because I'd want to save every single animal there.

I can deal with it in small doses in a bigger show, but there have been a few shows that seemed to focus on nothing but that that I have turned off, because it just gets to be to much.

Yes. Honestly the older I get the worse it feels. I guess my empathy is growing. I dunno, we’ve even started eating lower down the food chain, I used to love bacon but it’s hard to enjoy it knowing how intelligent and sweet they can be.
