You can of course make work arounds, but the implication is that the Empire fell, and if there is an imperial remnant, it is very weak. The fact all humans depicted were either enslaved or in rebellion is a clear implication of the Terrans' status.

not necessarily. In decline for sure, but it still might have ships and systems. Consider that DS9 is REALLY far from earth, on the edge of federation space. The empire might still have a relatively strong area of influence without anyone there knowing about it, especially with the alliance controlling most of the flux of information and space travel.

Think of when the western Roman Empire fell: in some remote areas such as in England people kept believing it still existed for decades and regular communication with Rome would be reestablished soon.

Regarding the nudity, I want to point out that, being a holopod simulation, it's entirely possible the censor bars are in the actual program, and not just added for our 21st century viewing pleasure, so Mariner may very well have seen the same thing we did and no Starfleet nudes were casually revealed.

Never take the "safeties" off your holoprograms.

I disagree! I was watching "The Andorian Incident" very carefully when it first aired. Tholos (played by Steven Dennis) is one of Shran's colleagues. He seems quite androgynous and is flirty with both T'Pol and Trip. (Or it seemed that way to me.) When Tholos returned in Shran's next appearance ("Shadow's of P'Jem"), it made me wonder if Tholos was the chan to Shran's thaan.

In our first proper look at a Andorian female, Lieutenant Tarah (Suzie Plakson in "Cease Fire") towers over Shran. Shran's next partner, Lieutenant Talas (Molly Brink), over several episodes, is definitely a different style of femininity than Tarah.

Because the books make the distinctions way more obvious. It is non-Andorians who fail to notice the subtleties?

For those not familiar with the books, during the conception of an Andorian child, the chan adds his gametes to those of the shen, which have already been fertilized by the thaan. The zygote is then implanted into the zhen's pouch. ["Deep Space Nine: "Unity" (Pocket, 2003) by SD Perry.]

The Andorian four sexes thing comes from a throw-away TNG line about Andorian marriages having four people. Apparently, the idea of a polyamory would have to be saved for Enterprise. However, I feel the four sexes thing was very interesting in the books as well as the reproduction crisis and its role in society. Certainly, I think the Andorians could use some more development beyond, "Really angry and unaware non-pink humans exist."

Were this the Golden Era of Star Trek toys in the '90s with Playmates we'd probably get a whole lot of LD figures including a Baby Borg set. I am glad that Trek toys and collectables are seeing something of a resurgence with the Mego figures and the model ships from the different shows and movies.

I am so glad they brought back the Borg babies and someone in Starfleet thinks rescuing innocent victims of them is a good idea.

I do think Voyager's, "Borg don't have kids thing" is ludicrous, though.

Yeah but it makes the Borg too one note that they must steal other people's children. I think the Borg for maximum efficiency can replace their own numbers.
