Context - The Crystalline Entity CG model

It's not like the Crystalline Entity is that complex a digital model. No, I'm not bragging that I could model it accurately, but somebody like @Donny could whip out that thing in an hour or less.

I appreciate the faith you have in my abilities. But there is hardly any modeling project I spend under an hour on unless it’s a small simple prop. I’ve never been known for speed. The crystalline entity would probably require a few at the very least. And I’d spend at least a couple hours on research before even beginning. Quality comes at a time cost. ;)

Didn't CBS say that all the original CGI files from TNG to ENT were lost or destroyed?

Isn't that why Eaglemoss had to pretty much create their own when they first started making the diecast starships.
I remember one of the EM guys saying that at a convention a couple of years back.

I know Doug Drexler said his files were all lost when one of his hard drives died.

Could probs do it really quickly via something tree-generatery. Use The Grove 3D for the branches, then cull the polycount and... y'know... all the leaves... before applying a glassy glowy iridescent material.

This week, I went with 9. I was lauching all the way through, both in hilariousness and absurdity of this episode. Star Trek to show orgy was not exactly something I ever anticipated happening, but now it did, and it was fun as hell.

I also enjoyed how the crew began working together better by the end if the episode, dealing with seemingly dangerous situations like it was nothing. Poor Boimler though, he deserves do much more. He really should make it into a captain one day, perhaps even making a cameo in Picard or something.

Another fun episode behind, two more to go

Two more thoughts:

1. I think we can all agree the computer not recognizing Boimler, the Borg Queen saying he's almost human, and other things are all leading up to the fact he's not a transporter clone but Boimler's good side.

2. I think Freeman leaving the gang is something meant to show that she really does have some serious flaws as a captain. I like the acknowledgement in-universe that Mariner's criticisms of her mother aren't all invalid.

I think 1 is a stretch. The computer not recognizing Boimler seems more like a one-of joke. If it was because he's not a full on human, it seems like the problem with non-recognition would continue. It's likewise simpler that the Borg Queen was just joking rather than making some meta-commentary about how Boimler is not whole. But I guess we'll see in a couple weeks if there's a payoff.

I think Freeman's flaws as a captain have been pretty well on display throughout the series. She's impatient, eager for glory, thin-skinned about getting dissed, unable or unwilling to figure things out with Mariner, and often falls in the try-hard category.

Regarding the nudity, I want to point out that, being a holopod simulation, it's entirely possible the censor bars are in the actual program, and not just added for our 21st century viewing pleasure, so Mariner may very well have seen the same thing we did and no Starfleet nudes were casually revealed.

Not saying this is the case, just pointing out the possibility.

this is a good question, given the kind of stuff we’ve seen in the past, where everybody can recreate everybody in a holodeck and have them do whatever they want, I can only imagine that 24th century ethics and laws about the use of someone’s image are very different than ours.
wasn't the crew's reaction to barclays's holo recreations kinda clear?
well, no one cares to be seen naked in the shower either. And in many parts of the world a lot of people don’t care about nudity.
do you really see no difference between nudity and pornography?

And yet the literary Andorians have two sexes that appear to be female and two that appear to be male, so it still works for canon Andorians.

It just has never even been hinted on, so I see no evidence.

Plus, I always found the "4 sexes" explanation for Data's line about Andorian weddings pretty lame and, if two of the sexes look female and two look male...then what's even the point of having four?

Though if any Star Trek show would reference it, it would probably be Lower Decks, for a quick laugh.

Seeing Counselor Birdman as a BDSM slave in the Mirror Universe is the funniest thing I've seen all season. Yes, even funnier than the masturbating Mugato.

That's probably a reference to mirror-Saru being a slave in DSC season 1, but what bothered me more about that holopod sim is that the Federation knows for certain that the Empire is no more from Sisko's reports, and has known for better than a decade at this point, so... why does this sim exist? What's the point in drilling junior officers in dealing with threats that simply don't exist anymore? I think Ms. Splits-into-three-parts was having some voyeuristic fun writing pointless sims that Mariner etc would've had no chance in.

To make them more alien I assume. The novels do explain how it all works. They really did think it through there.
It also makes them a race that’s it’s impossible to cross breed with another race. Only Aenars are compatible
