Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

My hunch is that this Starfleet ship is going to be under the command of one of the TNG legacy characters. LeVar Burton and Jonathan Frakes are not in LA based on their Twitter, so that leaves one of the Crushers or Worf. Gates McFadden had to delay the second season of her podcast due to "professional obligations" ... maybe this is the USS Pasteur.

It's interesting all the new set pictures Terry Mtalas has been posting on Twitter. And it looks like Patrick being on a space vessel not the La Sirena.

So... judging the teaser pics which ship, clearly Starfleet, are we visiting?
USS Stargazer-A - LCARS are too recent for a flashback storyline
USS Enterprise-E or F - like Lower Decks did with the Titan if the F appears I'd like them to canonise the existing design (the USS Verity and Picard: Countdown)
USS Picard - Admiral Clancy's apology for being such a b!**h?
USS ________ - another? The Zeng He? The Pasteur?

It's a starship, probably Federation. Otherwise, there's absolutely no way to guess which one. "LCARS are too recent..." means nothing. They will adopt the design and aesthetics to suit the preset show, not one that's 34 years old whose sets were cheap redresses of even older sets.

I mean, the TOS movie Enterprise changed bridge designs 5 times. The E-D suddenly gained a bunch of new stations between All Good Things and Generations. etc...

I don't think it's the Zeng He because Frakes isn't in LA right now (unless Riker isn't in command of it any more). I don't think it'll be an Enterprise (I feel like if an Enterprise appears it'll be in the last episode or something...could be wrong). It could be Pasteur ... Gates McFadden has delayed the second season of her podcast because of "an undisclosed professional commitment). But if this is going to be the new hero ship for season three, than I don't think a TNG alum will be in command.

We already saw TNG Era LCARS in one of Terry's images, so they're not against remaking old computer interfaces

If they actually show the Stargazer they probably recreate the old computer interfaces, or at least something similar.

Actually, you said it was Voyager era with TNG colour schemes.
It has the TNG colour scheme (though with more purple than I remember), but some of the control designs are VOY style, as I mentioned, the sliders.

As for going further back:

While I would love to see a faithful re-creation of that era starship display, I reiterate that the original look was done on the cheap by recycling TOS movie / battle bridge sets (which were the same anyway). Let's give the Stargazer a unique look it rightly deserves.

Keep it as close to the original Season 1 TNG appearance as possible. That's the way she looks in canon circa 2355-64. We don't need to visually retcon every older ship from a previous series because "modern audiences." The TOS Enterprise is one thing(and even it went too far in some areas in my opinion)but let's leave the Stargazer more or less the way she originally looked if they show her.

Yeah, actually we do need to. At least on the inside.

Even before DSC/PIC, I thought it was silly that the Stargazer's bridge looked like the Enterprise bridge from the first three movies. That was ridiculous and was only done for budgetary reasons.

The Enterprise-A in the late-2280s and early-2290s looked more modern than the Stargazer in the 2350s. That's pretty stupid.

EDIT: I'll link to another post of mine I just made today here. I might as well just cut-and-paste it because it works just as well here. "Yup. The three timeline theory is the best one to go with. That's why I'm okay with the changes DSC made. And I have TOS on DVD. Paramount can't do anything to what I already bought." I carry that same philosophy over to PIC.

If it's going to be featured front and center in a modern TV show, then yeah it does.
That wasn't the original argument. It being the Stargazer appeared to be sufficient argument for it deserving of some unique treatment.

And, no I don't think it needs a totally unique look just because. Perhaps they will go with such a view, or utilize standing sets to create a familiar but not type of feel, similar to "Yesterday's Enterprise" which seems to be a bit of the mode for this upcoming season.

Regardless, I don't see it deserving of anything. Mileage will vary.

OK, so "deserve" was the wrong choice of words. Let's go with "necessitate", as in, this is a major television production that shouldn't feature a crappy 1980s era reused set.
Perhaps. But, again, if they want to tell a story about a timeline that is off but still familiar then it just as well serve the story to have sets that are familiar enough to evoke a sense of normalcy, but still off.

Oh, I guarantee that if we see the Stargazer's bridge in a flashback, it won't look anything like that re-use of the TMP bridge seen in "The Battle." There's no way they'd spend time and money building a replica of a 42-year old bridge design that was seen only once. The bridge they do design will have about as much in common with the TMP design as the Discoprise bridge has with the TOS Enterprise bridge.

With the AR walls they have now, they can recreate the Stargazer bridge without rebuilding the set.

The thing about the Stargazer bridge is it looks outdated and inconsistent with the look of the bridges of the Enterprise A as seen in TFF and TUC, the Excelsior in TUC and the Enterprise B in Generations. Then again, so did the Enterprise C and that came after TFF. Regardless, should the Stargazer show up, I'm under no illusions about the bridge being consistent with The Battle. I also doubt the crew will be wearing Monster Maroons.
