From your point of view, perhaps.
Uh-huh. I didn't say Craig was playing him robotic, but that his Bond was like a robot.
Tell you what: I can easily write a 500-word essay describing Sean Connery's Bond, his personality mind you. I bet you that apart from loyal to M and determined to accomplish his missions, you would be very hard-pressed to write even 50 words to describe Craig's personality.
Correction, the films were more physical because of Daniel Craig's decision to be part stunt man throughout his reign. Actors replacing the stuntman was never a requirement for playing James Bond, whatever the new actor decides will be his choice. Also the notion of Elba's age is a disqualifier is bullsh*t especially since the times of Star Trek we all have seen actors defying the logic of physical activity and it has transcended through ALL GENRES and FRANCHISES: Rocky, Rambo, Terminator, Die Hard, Star Wars, and even Indiana Jones are breaking the rules of the ages. INDIANA JONES is going to break the age barrier by having a near 80 years old Harrison Ford fighting Nazi's in 1969??? If that is not a problem in HollywoodLand than I see nothing wrong with a James Bond actor in his 50's who doesn't really look 50.
Here's 214 off the cuff.
Craig’s Bond is an incredibly broken man. He does a job he hates because he’s good at it and it’s all he’s ever known, and because he doesn’t know what else to do. He takes pleasure in things like alcohol, and women (preferably married) and gambling but even then any pleasure is fleeting. Everything is disposable to him, watch how he throws away guns, phones, car keys etc after they’ve served their purpose.
In all the examples you state the reason an older actor is playing the role is because that actor has been playing the role since he was a younger man. The T800, Rocky Balboa, Han, Indy. Sure older actors are getting new action gigs but taking Reeves with John Wick and Neeson with Taken, while both in their fifties there were no plans that either would create a franchise, only the success of the initial film pushed sequels into the equation. I'm guessing they might have wanted a Nobody 2, but seems unlikely given Odenkirk's heart attack.
Maybe I'll be wrong, maybe they will hire Elba, a man likely to be as old when his first Bond film comes out as Daniel Craig is now, but I don't think they will. Much more likely to be an actor currently between 35-40.
So basically you and I have spent some time and many words rehashing what I already said about Daniel Craig's Bond in a more succinct way: He is like a robot, he IS very loyal to M, determined to complete his missions and tired of living.
This is why I asked you earlier on how long it’s been since you’ve seen his films, because we literally get a glimpse of his downtime at different points. He’s also one of only three Bonds (Connery and Moore) that we got to see his flat.I forgot to add: so is this much of a character? Not really, apart from his missions, we have no idea what this version of Bond is like in his downtime
Unless it's in the script, what you see in Bond's apartment is worthless as far as character insight. He could have a cello resting in a corner of his living room, it means in NO WAY that Bond relaxes by playing music. It just means he has a cello he got somehow. ''Retiring'' to a tropical island hardly qualifies here...This is why I asked you earlier on how long it’s been since you’ve seen his films, because we literally get a glimpse of his downtime at different points. He’s also one of only three Bonds (Connery and Moore) that we got to see his flat.
Looking at the trailers, we’re actually going to see EVEN MORE of his downtime.
Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. You claiming that and how Craig couldn't be described beyond 50 words just means you were so thoroughly unengaged with his incarnation.Unless it's in the script, what you see in Bond's apartment is worthless as far as character insight.
Idris Elba totes looks 50. Sexy 50 but still 50.As for age, Elba doesn't look the age of 50, and if he does to you - well - I need to journey through your neck of the woods where middle aged people look like Idris Elba.
Agreed, there are better movies which has best Craig's talents other than Bond, like Layer Cake, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Munich. Knives Out was a role perfectly made for Craig and I hope he continues to do those kinds of movies.I've only liked two of the Daniel Craig Bond films: Casino Royal and Skyfall. To this day, I've never finished Spectre. And QoS is... not great.
What really made those movies was not Craig but Judi Dench's M. Craig is serviceable in the role, but it never really felt like the part for him, or at least that's how it comes across. He's much more lively in other roles, such as Knives Out.
But for what it's worth, I prefer Timothy Dalton. Followed by Connery. But the best Bond movie remains On Her Majesty's Secret Service. If only, it featured a better Bond actor.
Early reviews are coming in. Mostly extremely positive. Long, but epic none the less.
SYFY Wire report.
Sounds like
Nomi IS the new 007 (did we know that already, or did we just know she was a new 00?), so depending on how this movie works out, it could set an interesting course for what's next.
