Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Oh for the love of... Once again Kris Marshall is somehow second favourite to be the next Doctor. Who are these people who keep putting money on him and why?

Even more amusingly neither Lydia West or T'nia Miller are on the list at all. As a non-gambler can anyone tell me how to place a bet on them as it looks like I could be in to make a tidy sum of money if it is one of the two?

Regarding the 60th Anniversary, I do not think it likely that RTD is going to bring back previous Doctors or Companions for it.
RTD won't have a say in that. That's a decision BBC will make. Moffat didn't want to bring Tennant back for the 50th, BBC forced him to. If BBC wants any previous Doctors back for the 60th, RTD will have to comply.

This show was once much more popular when RTD was running it. I have to believe bringing him back was a business decision and was probably with the idea that the show needs to return to something similar to what it was then. It’s all about ratings, ad revenue and overseas sales. If we’re in an Enterprise series 4 situation where too much fan base has been shed and won’t come back, it’ll be gone after the 60th.

Ok. I don't think the BBC will want the new Doctor to be overshadowed either, though.

Less of an issue if The Fourteenth Doctor has a full series under their belt before the anniversary.

I would like literally nothing better than to have the Timeless Children retconned away in a second. Its absolutely the worst possible legacy any showrunner could possibly leave behind for this franchise, both steering it toward a more fannish direction and taking away any real sense of mystery from the character. Plus, the idea of the Doctor having countless lives before Hartnell, inherently, terrible.

But, I do not see this happening. Its sad, but I don't see RTD doing this. However, if I get at least a full series of consistently entertaining set of stories with likeable characters, that would already be a huge step up from the last four years.

He posted on Instagram that Saturday was his first day back at work on the show. I doubt he's working on an episode that won't air for over two years.
I thought it was a joke. But a fan went a big further, commenting that that pic was a comment on how the Daleks are broken in the current state of affairs and hes working to fix it.

I don't disagree with the take, just not for this pic.

Tardy to the party, but I'll chime in.
This feels like good news.
RTD is one of the stronger showrunners in the history of the franchise. He's certainly the strongest of the three in the modern era.
Yes, he could be a better writer, but he's good at getting wonderful writers.
Maybe our once-a-year Moffatt story, as a treat.
A lot of what RTD did back in the day centered around bringing back one or two enemies from the classic era, and recontextualizing them. I like how they're not the main focus of every episode.
Not saying that that's what we're going to get, especially since it'll be 15 years by the time we see his new stuff, but if we ever get Omega, the Black and White Guardians, or the Valeyard again, I want it on his watch.

He wouldn't be writing anything because there's nothing for him to write right now.

If he is back at work, what he's likely doing is starting the search for the Fourteenth Doctor.

He's got cast, directors, writers and so on to find, equipment to source, designs (and designers) to employ, office staff to acquire, premises...

That's very doubtful unless you know something that nobody else does (including the BBC).
That goes both ways. There's nothing to say The Fourteenth Doctor hasn't already been cast or that Davies wasn't part of the process for an unknown amount of time before this announcement? No news or announcement doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Or are you saying you know something that nobody else does (including the BBC)? ;)

That's highly doubtful based on precedent.

If RTD had been locked in to return for months, his return would've been announced when Chibnall and Jodie announced their departures based on past precedent.

P
In addition,, past precedent from both the Classic and Modern eras of the show indicates that the search for a new Doctor begins only after its announced that the current Doctor is leaving, which barely happened a month ago.
