Yeah, I'd love Lydia West too, but Jodie Whittaker under RTD's pen would be truly awesome. Plus, we'd get a really epic exit for her, too!
I also thought Eccleston's problems were with the directors, not the producers.
“I left because my relationship with the showrunner and the producer broke down,” Eccleston said. “[I left because of] the politics of the show. I left only because of those three individuals and the way they were running the show. I loved playing the character, and I loved the world … I felt, ‘I’m gonna play the Doctor my way and I’m not gonna get involved in these politics,’ and that wasn’t workable, so off I went… and became the invisible man.”
But if Russel can come back then anything is possible. The Doctor Donna. This is all designed to trigger me isn't it ?

I'd be really disappointed if Jo Martin gets relegated to Big Finish but I do feel it's more possible now.I'd imagine it'll be a soft reboot like in 2005 and hopefully one that won't be quickly abandoned like Chibnall did with his.
Just leave the Jo Martin Doctor for Big Finish to play with.
Here is what Christopher Eccelston said most recently about it. He mentions RTD.Though the bulk of Eccleston's issues were with a specific director, he had his beef with RTD and a couple of other producers (very likely Gardner and Tranter, who RTD is mentioned as bringing back):
Great minds etc (or is it fools seldom differ?)Is there an echo in here?![]()
I'm very pleased! I hope he retcons out a lot of that TimeyWimey Child shit!
Don't want any old Doctors back (I miss them a lot, especially Eccleston, but in this at least move on), only for one-off specials.
I think this is where the co-production deal comes in. The BBC budget alone isn't enough to sustain a franchise, and the licence fee is set to be squeezed even further under this government.I wonder if RTD's comments a few months ago about a Marvel-style universe for Doctor Who played a role in his hiring and his pitch to the BBC -- that he can save Doctor Who again and become a Kevin Feige-like figure. But that's also going to require major financial investment; an eight-episode series every other year isn't going to accomplish that.
No wonder Eccleston said no to the 60th anniversary. It’s all his palpitations come back
Eccelston: I didn't know when I was well off, all three of them
Murray Gold- No sir! All Four!
For anyone who's feeling down on the news just remember in 2028 Moffat's back!
The Rose/Ten fanatics are going to be insufferable leading up to the 60th special, aren't they?
For a while, I actually thought this was a joke. Like, for real.
But damn! Did anyone see this coming?
Yeah that's why I thought she was probably the next Doctor even before the RTD news.So here's something I somehow never heard about until just now. Back in February of this year T'nia Miller ('Years & Years', 'The Haunting of Bly Manor'. 'Foundation' etc.) revealed on Cameo that she knew who the next Doctor is, that's it's a woman and someone they've worked with.
And given RTD's habit of casting people in multiple things I'm guessing it's Lydia West.

I have no interest in the baggage of The Doctor's past though maybe it's perfunctory nowadays? Before the RTD announcement I was hoping they'd maybe find a showrunner who was first exposed to Who in 2005 and wasn't interested in making a mark in the lore.
I was thinking. Is this a joke? Is this really a joke? but nope it looks like it's actually real.
The BBC must be getting real desperate to get him back
^There is no way, no way in hell that this isn't exactly that. No mattter what RTD thinks about this era, it does seem like the BBC is not exactly thrilled about the way Chibnall is steering the ship, let's say.
No. He's too big a fan of Doctor Who. He loves it too much. He wouldn't return to do that.I have to wonder if RTD is being brought back to close out the show he brought in. (after the 60th, of course)
"I’m beyond excited to be back on my favourite show. But we’re time-travelling too fast, there’s a whole series of Jodie Whittaker’s brilliant Doctor for me to enjoy, with my friend and hero Chris Chibnall at the helm – I’m still a viewer for now.”
I certainly hope you're right. Not just because I don't want the show to end, but I hate the idea of the show ending after (potentially) two female Doctors. We would never hear the end of it from the misogynists, both outside and inside fandom.No. He's too big a fan of Doctor Who. He loves it too much. He wouldn't return to do that.
