General Trek Questions and Observations

For some reason I just felt like I had to mention cabbage patch kids because of my dear cabbage patch kid.
He arrived when I was about two years old in the 80s, me now at 38 years old he's still around in our living room, older than my little sister.

You are not dead yet, unless you want to come out of the closet and admitt you are a ghost, or a zombie, or a vampire, or somethng. That makes at least one counterexample.

I disagree. A counterexample would be someone immortal. I am pretty sure I am not.

I get up in the morning, close enough.

Won't know until you get proof. Then you still will not know.

I already know that I am decaying. My eyesight is not what it used to be, my reflexes are slower, I can't run as fast as I used to... etc... So I am definitely mortal.

At least in bad need of an oil change and engine rebuild

I don't think Worf could have been accused of murder in this case. The proper term is "assisted suicide", given that Kurn was provably a willing participant. Unless Starfleet is ruled by a bunch of unnuanced brutes they must be capable of making that distinction. Now the question is what are Starfleet rules on assisted suicide? I'll say that if they're half as evolved and civilized as they purport to be then there hardly should be any punishment for that. Plus Picard seemed perfectly Ok with Riker assisting Worf's suicide. So a little coherence would be appreciated.
Sisko has a different approach to discipline than Picard. Sisko cut Dax off mid-sentence, and didn't even want to hear any explanations about exactly what was going on with Worf and Kurn.

Okay, I'm first gonna say I'm not one to pay much attention to the actual "technology" of the show beyond how it's used in the storylines and I have next to no knowledge on military or navy operations/protocol/etc.

But I'm really wondering....what does the Science Station do on the bridges that have them?

Science stuff. But only when there's a person to provide the science exposition.

Yeah but like what science stuff? Do they monitor the growth of mosses in some laboratory while the rest of the bridge is fighting the Romulans?
They usually sit that stuff out. More like scanning planets, systems, anomalies. Digging up facts from the Science computer about the area of space the ship's in. Though it's possible science can come into play when fighting Romulans. Like when Spock showed what happened to material struck by the plasma weapon in Balance of Terror. Or theorizing how the cloaking device worked.

I actually have an intriguing thought, regarding a couple of TNG's less stellar efforts.

Q-PID: Picard says to Q that he'd like to save the favor Q owes him for a later date. Q agrees.
HOMEWARD: Picard summons Q and points to the whole planet that's about to die in agony due to its atmosphere disappearing. He says "Fix that and we're even". Q snaps his fingers, and problem resolved.

Worf could deliver his iconic "I am NOT a merry man!" line at a different time, maybe on the holodeck with Alexander.

I just realized why we never saw that Romulan hospital on that Bajoran moon again...

* Kira demanded that it be defenseless.
* Kira promised Bajoran protection for it instead of its own weapons.
* We saw early on that the Bajoran ships couldn't fight off the Care Bears, much less the Jem'Hadar.
* The Romulan hospital was either quickly obliterated by the Jem'Hadar, or disestablished by the Romulans: better to have some troops die because there's no hospital, than have them all die because they're a soft target.
* Either way, Kira and Adm. Ross have a lot of (green) blood on their hands.
