Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

Probably not back to the theater, i haven't watched a movie twice in the theater in decades, so it's streaming for me to lean back comfortably and analyze certain scenes and let it set. I'll be more pissed than after the cancellation of Firefly if we don't get part 2.

I'm not sure I can even conceive of such rage...

I've written my review in the ratings thread and to sum it up - the movie is awesome!
It's going to be a very loooooooooong five weeks until us lowly Americans get to watch it. Bastard!

But I'm glad you enjoyed it. Gives me hope!

When i came out of the theater and on the way to the parking lot i tripped over the curb and faceplanted onto the walkway - left knee, elbow and right hand hurt like a mother but i took an Ibuprofen like a Fremen to write through the pain and bring you the news - i hope you appreciate it. ;)
This will be a tale remembered by generations and generations to come!

I don't want to even consider the possibility of such rage.

That seems like five months or more in internet time. I guess I can only be spoiled in terms of this movie's particular take against the source material which I am familiar but I feel like there's going to be a deluge of articles, reviews, and so on before it comes out.

Yup. Between social media and entertainment news sites, there's going to be a lot of stuff kicking around for those five weeks.

It's definitely going to feel like five months. At least. :(

In Canada we also have the Oct 22 date which really pisses me off that I didn't know they were doing showings in Montreal as a part of Tiff last week. :brickwall::brickwall::brickwall:

Probably going to see this with a friend this saturday. She never read the book, but she was intrigued by the trailer. Should be interesting to see how she as a non-fan and me as someone who reads Dune once a year will react to this movie.

Holy shit, there's only one more English language screening at the major theater in town in the next six days, and that's sold out, too. Out of curiosity, I checked the German language screenings for the evenings of the weekend, and while they aren't completely sold out yet, they also have pretty healthy attendence. At least for this first week in my area, this is indeed a hit.

Well, at least the English sound with German subtitles screening at the smaller theater are less occupied, so I'm gonna go see it there.

I'm definitely curious to see how she reacts to it. On a non-spoiler level. I've read the book and rereading it again right now, but I want to be surprised about how it plays out on screen.

So in about 12.5 hours i'll be in my seat watching it.

Probably going to see this with a friend this saturday.

Either you're on your way to become a Sith Lord or you have some serious issues that only a screening of the movie can resolve.. in a couple of weeks :p;)

You say that like it's an either or situation. Why can't it be a bit of both?

That and it's France. But fingers crossed!

I do wish Deadline mentioned which films had bigger openings. That would give us some small sense of how to gauge that placement.

In other Dune news, the official score is now out! I completely forgot (even though I knew it would be out on this day) until I saw a friend post about it on Facebook.

...and it's absolutely gorgeous.

My only complaint is that it's only 74 minutes long. I want more!

74 minute score for a 2 hour 35 min movie? That seems super short. I'm traveling this weekend visiting friends and family for the first time since Covid, won't probably hear it until next week. Is it much different from the sketchbook.

It's more...polished...than the sketchbook, which is about to be expected considering a sketchbook is usually the first (second, third, fourth...) draft, while also has some overlap. I agree 74 minutes seems super short, which is why I'm hoping and expecting an Interstellar-esque mega release (for that film, it was nearly two and a half hours long) at some point.

You can listen to the score on Spotify, which is where I'll be listening to it until at least the inevitable box set release that includes all three of the already announced albums.
