Ha-ha. Yeah, I'm not an Adele fan but I liked the theme for Skyfall. I didn't care for Madonna's theme either (and in that case I usually like Madonna).

I remember when I went to see Die Another Day there was a problem with the sound system at first (it cut out during the gun barrell sequence of all things). Then it came back on a few seconds later. Then when the title sequence started I thought it was happening again. Then I realized with horror that was how the song really was. Not as bad as the theme for Spectre, but probably 3rd worse theme (with Lulu's being #2 worse).

I didn't even mind the theme for Quantum of Solace. It was a bit different than the usual Bond theme. Not great, but ok. "All Time High" by Rita Coolidge was good as was Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" for The Spy Who Loved Me (probably my 3rd favorite overall). I also liked Nancy Sinatra's theme for "You Only Live Twice." I have to give a shout to John Barry's theme for On Her Majesty's Secret Service, even though it was just an instrumental. A bit of a jazzy orchestral theme that moves.

To be honest most of the Bond themes ranged from ok to really good. Just the 3 that I mentioned that I really didn't care for. I know Eilish's theme for No Time to Die is getting a lot of buzz. I thought it was ok, though I didn't think it was as great as a lot of critics make it out to be. But maybe the title sequence will help. Sometimes if done well it can help enhance the music so we'll see. I'll keep an open mind ;) .

I heard somewhere that Tom Jones was confused as to what exactly "he strikes like thunderball" was supposed to mean, other than being a direct reference to the title of the movie.

And that's why it's not always necessary to drop the name of the film into the lyrics. ;)

Well, that and there's no way they'd play a song with the word "octopussy" on the radio, not in 1983.

Still, you've got to give Jones credit, he gave it his all in that performance, holding that last note until he literally fainted in the recording booth.

I'm not rooting for Elba, I want a OO7 who doesn't have Daniel Craig's looks and doesn't have the acting blandness as Henry Cavil. Brosnan was a very good looking Bond.

Brosnan was too pretty for Bond.

I want a Bond that looks like he’s seen action, not a guy that sponsors L’Oréal for Men products.

I feel like the next Bond is probably like the 'rebound hookup' Bond and probably won't last more than 2 films.

    Too old.

And he’d have to shave his beard.

Too old for you, but in Hollywood they cast mature actors for roles but with the measure of these actors fitness today they don't show their ages. He's shaved his beard before no problem.

I saw someone posting on twitter wondering what a sort of “Old Man Bond”, a la Logan, The Dark Knight Returns, Unforgiven etc, would be like. I know that NSNA has an older Bond but it’s not exactly a movie given to introspection. Skyfall and Spectre do hint at Bond ageing but it’s still not quite the same thing. It again makes me a little sad that Eon won’t occasionally allow a one-off standalone 007 that breaks away from the usual formula.

If Idris Elba is in the running to play 007, wouldn't David Ajala be a better fit to play 007 at that point?

Idris Elba is currently 49 y/o
David Ajala is currenlty 35 y/o

Daniel Craig was 38 y/o when he started playing Bond with "Casino Royale".
Pierce Brosnan was 42 y/o when he started playing Bond with "Golden Eye".
Timothy Dalton was 41 y/o when he started playing Bond with "The Living Daylights".
Roger Moore was 45 y/o when he started playing Bond with "Live and Let Die".
George Lazenby was 30 y/o when he started playing Bond with "On Her Majesty’s Secret Service".
Sean Connery was 32 y/o when he started playing Bond with "Dr. No"

38 y/o is the average Starting Age of an actor playing James Bond.

David Ajala could play the role for longer since he's 14 years younger than Idris Elba.

We’ll always have THE ROCK as a quasi-Old Man Bond story.

Not rooting for a Bond of color but if the Broccolli's chooses Mr. Ajala I'm all in; he fits in the good looking category. I don't think EON is interested in what I want in a Bond movie because it's a series for guys and it should be. Craig's looks was more in line to the average male and with his emo representation of OO7 there's a connection closer than any other Bond. Are there rugged actors which were not mentioned who could be a possible contender?

Liam Neeson was 56 y/o when he started the "Taken" franchise

I swear "The ROCK" is 49 y/o and he should be about the right age to star in his own One-Man Army Action Bad-Ass franchise.

As a retired ex-military man with a "Special Set of Skills", ready to down whatever bad guys get in his way to fulfill whatever his objectives are.

What do you want in a Bond movie exactly?

A movie which delves into the world of James Bond where it's not politically correct, a movie where it's a trend setter and not chasing trends.

If 007 ever does go politically correct they might as well just bag it. Talk about an impossible task

I'd personally like to seem them get back to standalone stories. I don't mind some incidental linkages between films. Even the pre-Craig films had an occasional reference to something in a prior film.

But really, I'd love the next film to be Bond goes in, gets an assignment from M, some flirting with Moneypenny, gets his equipment, acerbic wit and advice from Q and tackles some meglomaniac out to destroy the world because he wasn't 5 billion dollars or else, and it has absolutely nothing to do with Bond's history, or M's history. And no Bond angst about his history.

Part of the joy of Bond is the escapism. Being able to sit for 2 hours or so and watch 007 pull off the impossible while trying to go to bed with the next Bond girl as she says "oh, James" whenever he is around. :D I mean, there's nothing wrong with having a Bond girl who can hold her own in a fight. We don't have to go total retro. ;) There's plenty of realism in the world today. Sometimes it's nice to just get away from all of that. :techman:

I want James Bond to smoke again, I want every women to love nicotine and tobacco. I want his world to all be in smoked filled rooms and have all kinds of hard liquor for the hero, allies, and enemies to drink.

So you really do want to go retro.

Ok. I'm down with that. :techman:
