Spoilers Possible connection between SNW and TMP

We need Christopher Bennett to weigh in on this. He's the literary inheritor of the New Human movement from Mr Roddenberry...

They made their attitudes toward litverse continuity pretty clear during the interviews.

Sure, they're open to using some bits and pieces.

Wonder how direct a descendant La'an is? I'm mildly embarrassed that it never occurred to me that a guy like Khan would have done a whole fucking lot of procreating during his few decades on Earth.

Obviously this character is a connection to TWOK, not TMP.

I'm not sure why some Trek novel writer would have any input about SNW other than just his opinion. He's not involved with the show's production. His opinion would be no more or less valid than mine.

.

Could be a connection to both movies. Especially if you consider that the TMP Directors Cut gets a new release...

In-universe it would also make some sense as both Augments as well as New Humans are examples of the same trope (Homo Superior).

Khan spread his (space) seed for sure.

At first thought I assumed Khan would feel getting together with non-Augments would've been beneath him, but then he did follow through on marrying Marla McGivers even though she mucked up his plan to take over the Enterprise so...

But we all know that the producers and writers of the present iteration of 'Trek are not above cribbing from both canon and non-canon sources, my friend. Hence, why "some Trek novel writer" should have an input on these matters.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the writers and producers of SNW don't even know what New Humans are, much less that there's some kind of link between this La'an Noonien-Singh character and the latter, especially since Khan's supermen have nothing to do with that.

I saw the name and thought of Lexxa Singh from the Renegades fan film universe.

And given modern supersoldier sensibilities (and Khan's feats in Into Darkness, mopping the floor with Klingons and the Vengeance crew), I expect her to be Strange New Worlds' version of The Orville's Alara.

PIKE: Na'an, can you open this jar of pickles for me?

LA'AN: Name's Laa'an, sir.

And @Kirsten Beyer, author extraordinaire and colleague with @Christopher , is of course one of the key writers of the modern era, and co-creator of Picard @Dukhat.
There are other NYT Best Sellers on the payroll that they call on canon issues but I am not going to out anyone. This staff takes things more serious that most realize and possibly talk more time to avoid continuity errors than any previous production team.

Could there be a connection between La'an Noonian Singh and the New Human Movement, known from Gene Roddenberry's TMP novelization?

Perhaps they evolved or developed from the remaining Augments left on Earth after the Eugenic Wars and WW3.

Highly unlikely. If there is, it would be a substantially different take on the New Humans from the TMP novelization, where they were incapable of handling the social stresses of space travel, rigid hierarchies, and extraterrestrial encounters, which is why they needed more primitive traditional humans like Kirk to do the dirty work of Starfleet exploration. They also bitterly opposed allocating so many resources to Starfleet, and disagreed with it's entire mission statement, so it would be odd if one of them joined Starfleet themselves.

Their whole movement, while creepy and sort of like passive-aggressive Borg, are also pacifists, so the aggressiveness of Singh augments would not appeal to them. Of course, this is a long distant ancestor, so that aggression would have been weeded out over centuries of breeding with normal humans one would assume. Unless they only slept around with other Augments to keep the bloodline pure, which is something they might do if they found an isolated colonly world to live on.

Doesn't Starfleet still have a ton of Augment embryo's in storage at Cold Station 12? Maybe La'an is one of those? If she is, it's also possible that La'an is 'defective' and only has minimal enhancements, like Udar who only had super-hearing.

As i mentioned in the lit forum:

"Maybe a mutation gave them a more stable temper and telepathic skills or they got their emotions in check kinda like the Vulcans and learnt from them a few psionic techniques."
