Spoilers Ted Lasso - Season 2 Discussion

One thing i noticed and it may be a red herring - does anyone think Rebecca and Ted are flirting with each other on Bantr ( that dating app in the show) without them knowing it? In one scene she makes a bold comment on it and immediately in the next cut we see Ted reading something on his phone and smiling.

That's exactly what I said when they cut to Ted on his phone.

He's here, he's there - he's every fucking where - Rooooooooy Keeeeeeeeeeent!!! :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Damn this show is funny without trying too hard.

Great episode tonight. I saw Ted's Jacket on the floor and I thought something really really bad happened. It looks like we are going to finally address his panic attacks and anxiety which is good. I loved the Roy and Jamie storyline and nice to see Nate get the good spotlight.

I'm kind of hesitant to say anything that could be perceived as negative about this show, as I know there's been a big Twitter drama with some people saying really extreme things about people who like the show, then people who like the show hitting back with some equally extreme tweets. But all I can say is I'm not finding season two as compelling as season one and I've fallen a bit behind on episodes. Think I'm about halfway through the Christmas episode and just not in the mood to go back. I think because the stakes feel so low, even for a comedy? It's just lots of scenes of people being nice to each other and, don't get me wrong, I have no problem with niceness (and I liked the niceness in season one!), it just feels a bit lacking in story? Like in season one there was the conflict between Ted's approach to coaching and the fact that they actually had to win some games, whereas in season two nobody really seems to care that they keep losing or drawing at football? There hasn't been any blowback at all to the team covering up their sponsor's logo on their shirts and I'm pretty sure a football club losing their sponsor would actually be a pretty big deal? Even the journalist who questioned Ted in season one is basically a big cuddly softie like everyone else now. It's not that I dislike the show, I'm just finding it harder to care.

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised by now at how low the bar has been set for humanity, but there are people that believe Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) is a completely CGI character as part of some sort of larger Apple conspiracy.

This season just isn't doing it for me.

There's no driving narrative.

Nate being an asshole to underlings would make sense in a drama or show that explores real personalities and emotions, but not on a show that's the TV equivalent of Angels eating cotton candy.

Then the most positive character on the most positive show in the world having panic attacks and yelling at a therapist he asked to help him is a bit out of place.

The writers seem to want to change what worked in season 1 - or maybe they didn't know what to do with the show after the first season, and had to try and evolve it. I suppose there is only so much content you can get from a character that originated in commercials (*coughgeikocavemencough*).

This season is decidedly different but i like it.

The first one was all out positivity, especially Ted with some personal drama mixed in between. However this season it shows there are some cracks in the system and not everything can be peachy all the time.

People go through problems and have to deal with them, chief amongst them Ted, and it's a nice change of pace while still keeping its positive tone ( the Christmas episode was full blown positive until you choked from all the good vibes it was sending out ).

I'm curious to see where Ted ends up - it seems he was covering up quite a bit of his own problems with his positivity and it's now breaking through - good for him to seek professional help.

Nate turning into a dick though is one of the less nicer aspects - sometimes the bullied turn into bullys themselves given the chance and his success clearly lifted him off the ground. This surely will end in a crash sooner or later and it will be painful.

Everyone keeps talking about a Christmas Episode - either I completely glazed over one of the episodes happening at Christmas, or I missed an episode and didn't even notice.

To sum it up - Go get some Sam & Rebecca!:lol:

I just love how they weave the characters into the show and give everyone a moment. Downright hilarity with the hair cutting celebration, boss and employee finding something in each other and we learn a bit more about Dr. Fieldstone ( possible alccohol problem).

Roy knocks it out of the park twice in this episode, first with the swearing and heartfelt talk with Phoebe and when he hugs Jaime after he punched his dad in front of everybody.

I don't know how dark the show wants to go but for some reason i'm slowly getting Robin Williams vibes off Ted - supercheerful in the front but battling big demons inside. We'll see.

I'm kind of kicking myself for not seeing where they were going with Ted's dad. I picked up that it was important and was waiting for the other shoe to drop after the darts scene at the end of the first season, where he was almost too casual when he mentioned his father dying when he was sixteen, but I really should've figured out what must have happened at the beginning of this season when Jamie asked Ted if his father had been a bully, and Ted said his dad was too hard on himself to take anything out on him.

After Nate going full psycho on Will, Beard calling out Nate's bullying as being "weird and personal," and Ted admitting to the other coaches that he was having panic attacks, I suspect Nate's storyline is going to come to a head when he tries to cut down Ted (or maybe Jamie) without thinking and it ends up being so much worse than the amount of cruelty and contempt he was knowingly expressing.

This episode, as well as the previous episodes have taken this season down a really dark path. I'm not sure I like that. Hopefully things turn around in the final three episodes. I didn't like this episode very much.

I got by the Christmas episode at last and am enjoying the season a bit more now. I do find the Nate story kind of bizarre still. He's being a total arsehole a lot of the time, but they also did a subplot about him trying to become more assertive? It felt weird. It was hard for me to support his efforts to be more assertive when I was just thinking "yeah but you're a total arsehole a lot of the time."

I liked the episode very much because it was so weird. It got progressively worse for Beard as the night went along ( and it didn't start well to begin with after the thrashing they got in the match) but the last minutes turned it all around when he finally found someone with whom he could let it all go - i had a small on my face the whole time he danced it out :)

Good for Ted Lasso and i saw one interviewer with Jason Sudeikis, who summed the appeal of Ted Lasso up perfectly when he thanked him for making such a show at a time when everybody was locked up and feeling anxious.

I have a suspicion about the Rupert/Nate whisper that, the more I think about it, the more I think it's likely. So I'll put it under a spoiler tag, even though I've heard none.

I suspect Rupert was either lying about giving Rebecca the shares, and he's plotting a takeover of the team. Or he's bought a competing team.

In either case, I think he told Nate he wants the "Wonder Kid" to be the head coach.

That's a very neat idea and i'm sure something is up on both fronts, especially because Nate is developing a real dick character. He way overshot his target from the time he was the butt of every joke with a secret talent, so when he was shown respect by Ted and given trust he made some good choices and they got massively to his head. I believe there will be a massive crash coming in the season finale.

The episode itself was brilliant - i had to pause the girl circle scene in the church because i was laughing so hard. I'm a guy but i guess it is the same - this is how one talks if you are in the core group of your friends, when you know each other inside out. And as always the show manages to find the perfect balance between such fun parts and the serious ones like Teds' panic attacks increasing and him dealing with buried traumata.

I don't want this season to end but it's only 2 episodes to go.
