The cat doctor is definitely my favorite character, but Tendi is probably my favorite of the main four.

Maybe I build it all up too much in my head because I'm so bored in Vietnamese lockdown right now, but I did find it was something of a let down again. It was alright, no more and no less. Much preferred the latter half of Season 1 and waiting to be bowled over.

I Mmm got tu give this one an 8. :nyah:

Boimler & Rutherford caught in the middle of horney-white-gorilla sex/masturbation
(in an erect hollow Log no less) ...

They should have put a weird hat on the bartender.

    Shaxs is dung happy.
You'd think eating all that crap would give him some immunity to their bite. :barf:

Mariner just being Mariner ... this could get old quick.

Kitty Doc being catty ... why am I not surprised.

Tendi getting over hiding her Orion assertiveness ...
That was the most character development in the whole episode. :techman:

Anbo-jyutsu, Mugatos, Ferengi with whips, background Kzinti... I thought this one was delightful.

I enjoyed the pairing of Boimler and Rutherford and their solution to the problem.

Another good, but not great outing IMHO. Better than Episode 1, but not as good as 2 and 3.

There were many aspects of the episode I enjoyed. I liked that we got a rare episode where someone other than Mariner ultimately "saves the day." Indeed, Mariner's role in this episode was for the first time supporting character, with the episode given over to Boimler and Rutherford - a new pairing. I feel like it's arguable the two of them were not distinguished enough in terms of personality here - shown as more-or-less identical "Bill and Ted" style characters - but within the confines of the episode it worked. Only a handful of the deep cuts really got on my nerves, and the episode made me smirk many times (if not make me laugh out loud). The board game involving diplomatic negotiations was hilarious - as was doubling down once again on T'ana being a cat.

Downsides? The only big one for me is I feel like Rutherford's characterization was kind of inconsistent with what we were previously shown, as Season 1 estabished he had access to combat routines through his implant. Though I suppose he might not have access to the same set with his new implant. More generally I don't think this episode really contained any bad aspects, but...there just wasn't stuff that blew my hair back. For an episode to be 8 or higher I don't have to just like it, I have to see things which go above and beyond my expectations. And even though like last week we got the focus put somewhere other than Mariner, I didn't think the character writing was quite as sharp.

I wonder if part of your feelings is that this episode was more like a standard trek episode, rather than an over the top satire like previous episodes. So it was not really laugh out loud. It was actually serious for the most part, with a standard trek story.

The mugato who liked to watch was the biggest laugh I've gotten this season.

It was cute how they had the same characters (mainly Shax) using different pronunciations of "mugato" / "gumato" every time they said it.

Didn't Mariner admit to having done black ops back in the day with the Klingon General?

    9/10 for me.

Not quite as funny as the previous episode, but an A+ for sheer craftsmanship. The various set-ups and payoffs are flawless, they pull off three distinct storylines that all reach satisfying conclusions within a very short timeframe, they got a few big laughs from me -- in particular the Tellarite Steve Irwin wannabe and his immediate demise, the kinky Mugato mating sequence and Shax's bizarre insistence on tasting the dung while tracking them -- and the A-plot going to Boims and Rutherford was a nice change of pace. I find the fundamentally sweet nature of Lower Deck's friendship plots and arcs curiously charming, Dr. T'ana continues to be her own whirling furball of comedic excellence, and this is a problem-solving Trek episode in almost the classical sense to boot.

Technically she called them "gray ops."

Of course, it could be that she was lying/exaggerating about what she had done. Which I think is part of what I don't like about this episode. Mariner outing herself as willing to spread lies about her past means that we can't really trust her as a narrator about her past.

    “Is he asserting?”
“No, I just think he likes to watch.”

OMG! I loved this episode. The retro Last Outpost Ferengi, the different Mugato pronunciations, the gossipy bartender, oh and poor P’Tingy (or however you spell it.)

8 for me. It was a decent episode but not an exceptional one, I liked the tendi b-plot, found the very violent mariner one too extreme. Clever idea with sucking out the poison and really great use of the ferengi, could have done without the mudato mating.
