I wonder why Paris wore the FC uniform (like the Titan crew).

For some reason, the hero ship here has utterly unique uniforms to the rest of the fleet (just like on "Discovery.")

I get why LD might want to update the uniforms from FC style, but in that case, EVERYONE should have them. It's definitely weird and kinda dumb.

I wonder about that too, it reminds me that in the TOS era other ships had different ship patches. The division symbols were the same

Boimler leaves the ship and joins another crew. The series actually does something new and interesting? Nah, walked back 2 episodes later.

Shax dies heroically at the end of season 1? Nah. He's alive somehow three episodes later.

Sadly it looks like the writing is about on par with Discovery and Picard, ie. rubbish. But hey easter eggs and nostalgia every five seconds, yay?

I guess DS9 doing it was also weird and dumb? DS9 had new uniforms, while everyone else still used the TNG series uniforms, and when Sisko was reassigned to earth he switched to a TNG uniform.

Also the Cerritos isn't the only one using these uniforms, the other Cali class ships use them as did the USS Vancouver. Mariner's dad also seemed to have a Lower Decks style Admiral's uniform.

And in Discovery only the Enterprise had different uniforms, everyone else used the Discovery uniforms.

Nope

That's not why most people like it. Those things are just fluff.

It's still doing new and interesting things.

They at least tried to have it makes sense on DS9. The "jumpsuit" uniforms were for more down n dirty assignments like DS9. But when Sisko went back to Starfleet headquarters, he put on the fancier uniform. When all the Starfleet officers arrived in "Emissary", they were wearing TNG uniforms, them changed to the jumpsuits. When Starfleet officers visited DS9 on starships, they also had TNG style. So at least it was consistent with a whiff of thought behind it.

But "Generations" just slapped them both together interchangeably and inconsistently with absolutely zero rhyme or reason.

And then VOY came along and said, "No, you can wear nothing but the jumpsuits on starships", further muddying the waters.

Similarly, Discovery has different starships in different uniforms without any logic, as LD has now done with some ships having the LD style and others having the old FC style.

Hence, dumb.

And yes, I think debate and complexity are much better than a clear-cut thing like, say, Mariner saying: "Greenface bad! Racism bad! Discuss!"
An animated comedy show going for a debate INSTEAD OF a laugh seems like something this show might do, but besides that, in this case what LD has elicited is not a debate about anything of real substance, but simply a disagreement as to whether or not a particular joke was made.

But we just might be debating something of substance if the show had taken a stance and actually gone for the joke that was sharing them in the face.

I’d be okay with them simply dropping the pretense of being a comedy and just be a light hearted adventure.

Starfleet usually keeps two styles of uniforms going at all times. Call them Class A And Class B. Which one we see more at any time depends on the ship and mission. It's further complicated by Class A sometimes getting redesignated Class B when the New Class A is introduced, but this doesn't always happen. I did a timeline a while back that held together OK.

But don't you feel special that you get all these obscure references? They call it VOY like online fans do (cool!). Hey, we referenced another TNG episode. ENT uniform cameo! Holy shitballz a DS9 drop! Worf's Bat'leth! Klingon acid punk music lol - so much cooler than opera. Please keep stuffing references down my gullet ... These guys are amazing they have the same useless repository of Trek knowledge I do ... THEY KNOW THE THINGS I KNOW AND HAVE WATCHED THE SAME THINGS I HAVE.

Three episodes in and I haven't laughed once. There were the beginnings of a smile when Paris attacked Bommer or whatever his name is.

I'll admit the references were a fun novelty to begin with, but it's already repetitive & flat. Perhaps it would be less tiring if it weren't their only trick.

Respectfully, this is just pure speculation/fanon on your part, so........

You expected the co-lead character to just leave the show permanently?

Is this your first TV show?

Excuse me? Where did I say I expected the co-lead to leave the show? Lower Decks is capable of having two ships the storyline can jump back and forth between.

Well said. The references being their only trick is a very pertinent point and the show's popularity will fall off a cliff when people start getting bored with them. I suspect that might already be happening.

at this point we’ve seen different styles of uniforms used at the same time on different ships in several occasions, though, the biggest offender being discovery season 3, where they refit the ship but keep hundred years old uniforms for a while!

TOS saw the pilot shirts being used by science vessel crewmen and other Starfleet officers well into Season 2, so we can say that the pilot uniform design was still being used by Starfleet for some of its officers as late as 2267.

I don’t think the Antares was supposed to be a Starfleet ship (a Roddenberry note later in production points out it wasn’t), can’t think of other uses of the pilot uniforms after the pilots.

That situation was forced on the movie and show due to production reasons. Originally the plan was to introduce new uniforms in Generations, which would also have been used on Voyager and would replace the TNG uniform on DS9. Presumably, Sisko would have changed to that when he went to Earth in the fourth season. But then at the last minute, the new uniforms in Generations were abandoned, someone had the idea to have them wearing the DS9 uniforms to make it look different from TNG. But aside from Stewart and Spiner, who did have their own tailored DS9 uniforms, everyone else had to take already existing DS9 uniforms. Indeed, Jonathan Frakes actually wore Aver Brooks's costume, and LeVar Burton wore Colm Meaney's. But then there were no DS9 uniforms that could fit Dorn, Sirtis, or McFadden, so they had to keep their TNG uniforms.

As for Voyager, it was decided the cast looked better in the DS9 uniforms than in the TNG ones, so that's what they went with.
Similarly, Discovery has different starships in different uniforms without any logic, as LD has now done with some ships having the LD style and others having the old FC style.
That's not how it goes at all. In the first two seasons of Disco, everyone in Starfleet wore the blue uniforms with the exception of the Enterprise crew. In the novels, that's been explained as the Constitution fleet having their own uniforms. Likewise Lower Decks is showing everyone in the LD uniforms, the only exceptions being the Titan crew, the Quito crew, Tom Paris and the half old man, half little boy on the medical transport with Boimler. The implication there is that those in Starfleet's frontline service wear the First Contact era gray uniforms, with the rest of Starfleet wearing the LD uniforms. Indeed, if you want, you can probably retcon that as the reason for the TNG/DS9 uniform slit previously.
