What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Maybe Janeway likes younger men, she did carry children with Tom Paris when they got Salamanderized.

And Chakotay and the others didn't bother to recover the baby Salamanders to be De-Evolved back to being human.

And Janeway at that time was quite beautiful, I wouldn't be surprised if Harry was her side fling.

All those lonely nights on VOY, and Chakotay wasn't there to keep her company in bed.

Harry could've been Janeway's secret "Friends with Benefits" on the down low.

Janeway did hand-pick Harry to be a Senior Staff member & "Chief of Ops" straight out of StarFleet Academy and part of the Senior Staff, you don't do that with just anybody.

And she could've been disappointed/jealous that Harry fell in love with that one Alien girl on that Varro Generational Ship.

Janeway knows what could happen if word gets out that she's having sexual relations with a direct subordinate, so things gotta be kept quiet and Harry can be surprisingly good about keeping secrets.

I never understood spikey heels? They just seem like bad fundamental design and are prone to break while Platform shoes are more sturdy and reliable and can do the exact same thing as spiked heels.

Why buy any shoe that is more likely to easily break and twist your ankle?

Ladies, help me out here? Am I crazy?
Your comments above about Janeway and Kim make me say, yes, you *are* crazy, but in the best way possible.

Spiky heels are for looking sexy. That's it. I haven't worn them in decades, but I also haven't been capable of looking sexy in decades.

Age is just a number, look at the President of France Emmanuel Macron, his wife is significantly older than he is.

Brigitte Macron is 68 y/o as of this posting. Emmanuel is 43 y/o.
Brigitte's Personal life
On 22 June 1974, she married banker André-Louis Auzière, with whom she had three children, Sébastien Auzière, an engineer, Dr. Laurence Auzière-Jourdan, a cardiologist, and Tiphaine Auzière, a lawyer. They resided in Truchtersheim until 1991, when they moved to Amiens.[7] She, at the age of 40, met the 15-year-old Emmanuel Macron in La Providence High School in the year 1993,[16] where she was a teacher and he was a student and a classmate of her daughter Laurence.[17] She divorced Auzière in January 2006 and married Macron in October 2007

She's a divorcé with 3 children from a previous marriage where she met a 15 y/o Emmanuel Macron in HS, where she was his teacher and he was her student and a classmate of her own daughter. She fell in love with him and eventually divorced her Ex (which she had a long term marriage relationship of 32 years) and moved to a better man by marrying the younger Macron who is now the President of France and she is the First Lady.

Their tale of love transcending age and common cultural taboos, should be a story that everybody knows about, it's beautiful IMO.

Sexy is in the eye of the beholder and I just see spiked heels as silly with a lot of fundamental structural design flaws where they easily break and twist your ankle. It's alot of fashion pretense without sound decision making.

I haven't worn them in decades, but I also haven't been capable of looking sexy in decades.
You just gotta find the right person (I'm assuming it's your husband) who finds you sexy and wear nicer Platform based high heels that don't suck. I wouldn't want you to sprain or break your ankle. =D

And in this day and age, there's a saying: "Your 50's are your new 40's".
Look at Ming-Na Wen, she looks great despite being 57 y/o.
Clark Gregg looks great for being 59 y/o.
Adam Savage still looks great while being 54 y/o now.

They call that "statutory rape" here.

I dig what you're saying, and if that was all there was to it, sure. Don't tell me I need to run a quick course in "Women and Internalized Patriarchy". "Fashion" is not made for women, it's made for the men assumed to be looking at them. Most of us are happier in sweats with no bra. But that isn't considered "appropriate" for outside the house (no matter what one sees at Wal-Mart!). OTOH, when I was able to wear a skintight dress and heels and have a guy yell "thank you!" it did feel nice.

Basically, it's complicated. :D

Bless him, he doesn't care what I wear. That's love for ya. He would probably love if I ever feel comfy enough in my skin to buy lingerie again though.

I have both a mad crush on and deep jealousy of Ming-Na. Like I said... complicated!

My friends in my age group (I'm 53) are all quite happy to be past the "have to look a certain way to 'catch' a partner" point in our lives, so that plays a part too.

Artificial laws made by Puritans & Busy Bodies in the past who find any excuse to label what they didn't like as "Rape" or some form of "Rape" by calling it "Statutory Rape", despite Macron and his Wife being fully consensual in their love.

It's a arbitrary law that needs to be massively de-criminalized. They're happily married and have been for many years.

But the majority of Women's Fashion is designed by Women now-a-days. It's actually quite rare to find men in that field other than a few big name examples.

You should wear what you find comfortable and don't give a damn about what others think about what you wear outside.

Modern women can wear skin tight yoga pants outside and can basically wear their bra with see through clothing on top and it's considered "Normal". So you really should just wear whatever you find to be "Comfortable" and ignore the haters / gossipy folks.

It's always nice to be complimented and to have compliments coming from others who find you attractive.

That's up to you, and only you =D

I'll tell you the secret to Asians looking young, as a fellow Asian myself, it's not much of a secret.

It's just really hard to implement on a daily basis.

Most Asians who want to maintain their long term youthful looks, HATE being out in the sun; they do everything to minimize time in the sun.

The damage from the Sun is what makes your skin look older than it should.

The amount of time you need to spend in the sun to get your daily dose of Vitamin D is 10-15 minutes.

The rest of the time, you should basically pretend to be a vampire and stay out of the light.

It's easy to understand, VERY hard to practice for the rest of your life.

My friends in my age group (I'm 53) are all quite happy to be past the "have to look a certain way to 'catch' a partner" point in our lives, so that plays a part too.
I'm glad you're happy!

Basically, it's complicated stupid :D
Fixed that for you.

Honestly, when doing research for writing, as well as psychology papers, I studied fashion from time to time. And I can't get through it without rolling my eyes. It is hard to grasp the amount of work put in to this process. I get angry because my wife's clothes rarely have pockets, or don't fit right because she is shorter than average. Honestly, I loved hanging out with my friends in college when they threw on a sweatshirt and put their hair in a bun and calling it good.

Ok, off my soapbox.

I'm glad that Macron and his wife are the exception, but the laws exist because there are people who take advantage of the relative difference in power, maturity, etc. It isn't just Puritanism. I had a friend in high school who had an affair with a teacher - she definitely did not have the maturity to really give consent and he should have known better. It definitely wasn't love.

I'm not sure about the designers because it's not something I follow. But every woman in our culture, including designers, has been raised with certain expectations and assumptions. Decades of feminism have helped, but watch The Bachelor/ette or any number of TV commercials and you'll see that some things have not changed. Fish don't know they're in water and most women (not us; we're ST fans and therefore smarter :D) don't think to question everything. Look at this year's Olympics - why are women athletes still expected to wear skimpy outfits?

LOL! Here in Arizona, staying out of the sun is a survival tactic!

I'm part Italian, so my skin is pretty good and I sometimes get guessed younger than I am. I'm jealous of Ming-Na (and other women's) fitness level. Like many Americans, I've sat too much and eaten junk and put on a lot of weight over the last 10-15 years. I'm working on that now. I may have to get a trainer like all those actors. :)

Good on you! I'm also short ("petite") and I totally get that. I'm finally starting to see some women's clothing with pockets, which is great. I've never really understood most fashion either, even when I was a teenage girl. :shrug:But there is a LOT of money being made, so *someone* is buying it!

No, he made a valid point, and I immediately understood what he was saying without having to be fully chastised. Sometimes my American education shines through.

Although, I'm not sure calling me a "Star Trek writer" was quite the terrible insult that Mr. Golding was going for.

It was a joke.

I have been practicing the no sun thing my entire life. And I live Miami, where the heat and humidity is so high that just walking outside to get the mail makes you sweat profusely. I've never liked the sun... plus, I have been working in frozen foods for the majority of 24 years. One of the reasons I'm called 'Frosty Paws' at work.

When people ask me why I look younger than my age, I tell them the answer is simple... I've worked in the cold so long, it's basically cryogenically preserved my youth.

Plays hell on your joints, though, but that's with any physical job.
