The better solution are pockets with zippers and/or cover flaps.

The most impractical are the Romulan pockets, the ones where they put their phasers. have you seen them?

In Spock Must Die!, James Blish’s version of Scotty had some opinions about pockets:
“Aye, I feared as much. An’ it’s oft before, lang an’ lang, that I’ve cursed the designer who thought it’d be cute to put no pockets in these uniforms.”
Back on TOS, Kevin Riley seems to have pockets.

    An Irishman’s prerogative, no doubt.

In Monte-Carlo, the croupiers don't have pockets but I suspect it's to eliminate the temptation to steal some of the enormous amounts of money that are exchanged around them... I guess it's more symbolic than anything else as these people are most likely watched closely and they couldn't get away with stealing anything. Nothing is harder than to steal from the rich and powerful, especially when you're not.

That is atrocious! As a gun guy, there are far better holsters that retain your FireArm then this PoS design that looks straight out of a S&M fetish cosplay store.

I think his thumbs are in his pants. The black above is from the undershirt.

Yep. One thing we sometimes like to forget is that TOS Season 1 showed that the pullover uniform shirts had a black undershirt that formed the collar. That doesn't always hold up in later episodes but this early in the series the shirt was a two-part tunic.

Due respect to you and Myk, but I don’t think that’s accurate. I’m happy to be shown otherwise.

As for Riley’s pockets, watch the scene where he leaves the turbolift and heads for sickbay. Looks like pockets to me.

I thought that the TOS pants had pockets at the waistband - basically coin pockets (if the Federation used money that is...).

Are we sure those are uniform pants? (Can you see flared cuffs as he chases dudes?) Maybe they're exercise pants.

The Enterprise uniforms were the most practical and functional uniforms in any Trek franchise. It was ridiculous that the ever logical and practical Vulcans didn't either (a) already have similar uniforms in use for their VDF personnel, or (b) adopt the human model quickly.

    I had no idea.

Mystery solved. TOS uniforms HAD pockets. However small.

    Ditto.

Someone recently linked to an article that attested that the TOS uniform pants did have pockets, with the opening very high up near the waist. Sorry, I can't remember who, what thread, or exactly when, nor could I personally attest to the veracity of the claim. Maybe someone can fess up or snitch. :)

The HD Sulu pics are fantastic, though!

I looked back at these and you know what the ship at bottom right, I don't mind that one.

The top row look like Trek versions of The Liberator

I agree. I’d like to see the Independence some day. If only there was some callback-heavy, obscurely referential version of Trek out there….
