Spoilers Spider-man 3(take 2) Anticipation thread

To be clear, I don't actually think it's Mephisto, just I think it's funny that it could plausibly be him in this situation.

I actually hope it's not him, but I do think there is something off about Strange.

Don’t start that Memphisto thing again. It was bad enough in Wandavision. :)

Oh lordy, not Mephisto again.

He did the same memory-wiping trick for Daredevil in the comics so I see nothing out of character for him here. Plus, if Peter hadn't interrupted him and Wanda and Sylvie hadn't been busy breaking reality it probably would have all been fine.

On Twitter, people are pointing out that Strange winks in the trailer just like Agatha Harkness.

To be fair, I said 'perhaps' followed by a 'or someone else'. The point being......
This is so out of character that the idea of Strange being either manipulated or controled seems more than likely.

Agatha Harkness seems rather unlikely considering how WandaVision ended, but I'm not saying 'no' just now.

Honestly, I only brought up the Agatha thing because I saw a couple of posts about it on Twitter this morning. I have ZERO expectation of Agatha Harkness appearing in No Way Home. I just don't see Sony saying, "Okay, yeah, we'll do a Spider-Man movie so steeped in the MCU that only hardcore MCU fans will understand it." Fundamentally, at the end of the day, it's going to be a Sony movie about Tom Hollard's Spider-Man with MCU elements, not a movie about the larger Marvel Studios MCU metaplot.

That would be a very cool thing to happen even if, as you said, it would only work the one time. However, in this day and age of social media, drones, and smart phones, there's no way an entire film could be filmed without people having some idea what's being made. And that's before you get to the terrified marketing people.

A cool idea on paper, but impossible in practicality.
Oh I didn't mean make a whole movie in secret (though that'd be nuts) I meant more like if there was a movie that people knew was coming out but no official word when (let's say 'Fantastic Four'; purely for the sake of argument), then when the first teaser comes out instead of saying "coming next summer" or whatever, it just says "out now", and that's it, it's out!

So I've been combing through the trailer some more and there might be a hint to another villain. At the 2:26 mark (right after the shot of Happy), Peter reacts to something large moving in the dark behind him. It's a very quick and very dark moment, so it's difficult to tell who or what is attacking Peter. My initial is perhaps Lizard but there appears to be some kind of glowing tendril moving around (maybe his tail?).

Managed to pause the video right when you see it. It's very, very dark and super hard to see but it's definitely not the lizard. Your description made me think maybe Scorpion but I'd say that's definitely not it either. It's not really a glowing tendril so much as a glowing (slightly) whole figure and it has human-ish proportions but stretched really tall. When Peter turns you can see it shoots something (itself) in multiple directions simultaneously, too.

I suppose it's kind of reminiscent of the fire elemental from FFH but on a human scale, so maybe it's another Mysterio illusion?

Or possibly some kind of symbiote? It looks too black to be the same Carnage from the Venom 2 trailer, but there is a fair amount of red so maybe a different version?

I'm also seeing rumors about Matt Murdock being in the room when Peter is being interrogated.

I saw the picture they're claiming is Charlie Cox. Yeah, his face is hidden in shadow and his shirt and tie match an outfit from the DD series, but I'm 99% certain it's not him. The shape of the face is wrong and there's zero hint of him wearing the trademark glasses even though you clearly should be able to see their outline given how his face is turned. Plus there's a bit of a paunch under the shirt.

What I find interesting, is, from what we see in the trailer it doesn't seem the multiverse events of this movie are at all connected to what is going on in the Loki series. I assume the upcoming Doctor Strange movie will clarify things...maybe.

Tease.

If the chatter had any merit at all, and its Cox as Murdock, that instantly opens up the rumor mill to other former Netflix actors & characters, such as the one I feel the MCU needs more than any other character--the Punisher as played by Bernthal.

Yeah, that's fair. I did go a little on the extreme side there.

Still, it does seem unlikely and not just because marketing would collectively shit their pants.

The only time I recall that happening in general was The Cloverfield Paradox but that was mostly because the whole production was a dumpster fire apparently and they just released it as fast as they could.

Yeah, I've seen those rumors, too, but I don't think that's him specifically because of the paunch. Matt always wore fairly tight shirts which is not the case here.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he does show up as Peter's lawyer and that's just not him there. That general rumor of him being in the film has been kicking around for a long time (which doesn't necessarily mean anything) so it would be cool if showed up in some form.

Yeah, the more I've looked at it, the less likely it seems to be the Lizard. I only went in that direction because he's the last major villain from the non-MCU films that hasn't been hinted at yet (assuming that sandstorm is from Sandman). Also because of the quick roar that we hear. The glowing aspect seems somewhat fiery so that seems unlike the Lizard, too.

I think this film, WandaVision, and Loki are all set-ups for The Multiverse of Madness.

There’s the multiverse and alternate timelines. Loki deals with the latter

Ok, having a bit a guess at the plot of the first act.
Spider-Man is confronted with the new status quo of people knowing his identity.
And on top of it all he is under murder investigation for offing Mysterio.
But he is “lucky” and his lawyer (possibly Matt Murdock) gets him off of all charges.
But he still carries the murderer stigma in public, being crucified by the Bugle constantly.
It is then that he turns to Strange.

The fact that there is a multiverse at all is a connection to Loki.

So the plot of the film is Peter Parker causes massive problems by not being able to keep his mouth shut? I wonder who have inspired that? *cough*Tom Holland*cough*
Speaking of not keeping their mouth shut... JB Smoove straight-up confirmed Tobey Maguire is in the film.

I'm still skeptical. Maybe JB Smoove didn't completely understand the question and just answered in excitement.

At this stage I think Disney needs to have a camera crew follow Kevin Feige just to capture his reaction every time someone lets out spoilers.

Someone pointed out to me, when I said it was weird that Strange would just do this...... That it's not Strange. He's under mindcontrol from perhaps Mephisto or someone else......
I could see that. People are talking that it will be Spiderman Vs. Strange in this movie.

Don’t start that Memphisto thing again. It was bad enough in Wandavision. :)
But it's even more likely now right? ;)

But Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) looks slimmer than that and I don't think he's the kind of guy to slam folders on the desk like that in front of a teenager.

Calling it now. Mephisto is the secret big bad...again!

I just re-watched the trailer and noticed that at one point Strange says to Peter that it's Parker's fault for trying to live two lives. It is possible that Strange's spell works, but what it does is transfer Peter to another multiverse. Peter is not content with this, but likes the new world for some reason, and starts to travel back and forth between the two different earth's which has the effect of breaking down the multiversal barrier. This is just speculation of course.

That's great! I'm calling it now--Fantastic Four will be out in October.

I'm really lukewarm on this, although I'm looking forward to Andrew Garfield's return. I haven't had any hype for Marvel since Endgame, I think I emotionally checked out at that natural endpoint.
