Gene Roddenberry Biopic In Works With ‘You Don’t Know Jack’ Scribe Adam Mazer – Deadline

Gene Roddenberry: Biopic Planned on 'Star Trek' Creator - Variety
The biopic will cover Roddenberry’s life before and after creating “Star Trek,” which was notable at the time for its diverse cast and was threatened with cancellation after the second season before becoming a massive worldwide franchise.

The project will also cover his survival of two plane crashes and the events leading to his death just as “Star Trek: The Next Generation” was becoming the most successful series of the franchise.

Interesting. I remember somebody was trying make an independent Gene Roddenberry biopic, centered on production of "The Cage," I think about five years ago or so. And from what I understood, that one was going to be more "warts and all." There was even a little preview/trailer type video. But apparently that project didn't go anywhere. I vaguely remember searching for the video later on and not being able to find it again. Does anybody else remember that?

The ever versatile Christian Bale would be a great choice for Gene, but I don’t know if Rod would be able to raise that kind of money.

BTW, having been down this road myself, a film isn't real or even going to happen until a production deal and financing is in place. Until the budget gets released for the start or preproduction, it's literally just a script and the project can go down the tubes like *that*.

"It don't mean nothin' til you sign it on the dotted line. Don't... mean... nothin'...."

regarding casting TOS cast - obviously it'll be no name lookalike actors but wonder if they'll try deepfakes now its seemingly so easy to do? (if they can legal wise - i guess so as apparently TOS cast have always had very little/no say in their image rights) or maybe they'll bring in the SNW cast for hunter/nimoy/majel? (something similar was done for the 50th ann Dr Who origin dramatisation )

That would be one of the biggest acts of miscasting in history. Bale and Roddenberry are so physically different--particularly the facial features--that all anyone would see is Bale in a role, not as Roddenberry.

I didn't get one line into reading the article before I started spotting lies.
"Fighter Pilot?" Since when is B-17 Flying Fortress a "Fighter?"

Additional: A few years ago, I saw a biography of Gene Roddeberry, where Rod Roddenberry struck me as a jealous kid who had issues with his dad because he'd run out on his mother and was forced to put up with his stepmother. I got the impression he hated Star Trek and didn't want to know a thing about it or his father.

It strikes me as a little disingenuous (or flat out mercenary) that the Rod now wants to capitalize on the stuff his father did. Methinks the guy just wants easy money.

'Rod" (actually Gene Jr.) is the son of Gene and Majel Barrett, While his father was unfaithful to his mother (as he was to his first wife, with whom he had two daughters), he never walked out on Majel at any time as far as I know. Who is the 'stepmother' you are referring to?

You might be confusing him with someone else.

Huh. That's weird. I was sure "Rod" was from the previous marriage. Oh well, my memory can be off sometimes.
Either way, I do remember watching something with family home movies of a young "Rod" rolling his eyes at Star Trek stuff (like an Enterprise Birthday cake) and something about how he wanted nothing to do with it.

People change.

My choices for playing Roddenberry comes down to Bobby Cannavale, Sebastian Stan, Ryan Gosling, Bryan Cranston or Bob Odenkirk.
