Spoilers The Bad Batch - Season 1 Discussion [cue A-Team theme music]

(Just out of curiosity, how much of Zahn's IP will Disney be able to use? Was it in-house writing and his Thrawn is their Thrawn now, or are there limits?)

The Batch did lock their ship after all (or it has the good sense to close the door and lock it all by itself). And the landing platform was way above normal wave height. And there are sunny days on Kamino! I feel cheated in so many ways.

Nice glassware they got. But that deep, I wouldn't expect tiny jets of water from the cracks. I'd expect full waterclap, eardrum-splitting releases of pressure, and if there are tiny jets of water, they'd strip flesh when making contact...

A decent Poseidon Adventure, as nicely put above. But basically just overflow from the main story which they already did in the first half, going straight into the bilge. Oh, well. The music was great, as were the visuals, helping me buy into Omega's loss. And perhaps Crosshair's, too. Strange that the rest of the Batch didn't get equally emotional, tho.

Apparently the bends is not a thing in the Star Wars universe. Either that or those cities were in shallow water.

We sorta saw with our own eyes how deep it was. The Kursk sank in shallower water.

But, you know, Clones. Perhaps they don't even have eardrums, so that fighting in rapidly depressurizing spacecraft is simpler?

Then again, there weren't many scenes where the heroes could have been exposed to pressure. Even the transit tube interior might have been in comfy 1 atm, with just a bit of extra from the leaks.

I was convinced, as soon as it became clear that the whole episode was going to be focused on the Bad Batch's escape from the collapsing Kaminoian clone facilities, that AZI-3 was going to sacrifice himself for the sake of the Bad Batch, or at least Omega. And, for a moment, it looked like that I was right.

But then Crosshair had a moment of compassion and saved both AZI-3 and Omega. Even if he still stubbornly stood his ground about the Empire (as I predicted) and continuously refused the olive branch Omega, Hunter, and Wrecker each offered. I honestly didn't expect him to return to the Bad Batch, even if everyone was willing to forgive him. There's no going back home and no returning to the status quo.

I am curious to see how Crosshair's role will play out from here. Presumably he'll manage to get back to the Empire either with a distress call or conveniently find a small escape vessel at the secret lab (but I don't expect to actually see any of that). Even if he's accepted back, his position won't be the same, regardless of being a clone. He's tainted and a failure. And yet, I don't expect that will sway him.

So far as I'm aware 100% of everything anyone has ever officially written, drew, coded, whatevered for Star Wars is 100% Disney property. They're free to use and/or change anything they please.

Which honestly aside from a very few edge cases (*waves at Kzinti in Star Trek*) is fairly typical of franchise work. Authors generally know going in that they're getting paid to play in someone else's sandbox and that they don't get to keep any part of the IP they create.
That's not to say they can't take a sort of (and not legally binding) creative ownership of certain parts they come up with. Prior to 'Rebels' Zahn for example was pretty much the only author to write Thrawn (possibly because nobody else wanted to?) But then on the other hand like a dozen or so authors wrote Mara Jade (though TBH only Zahn wrote her well.) Similarly Filloni seems to more or less have a LOT of say as to what happens with Ahsoka as a character, though that's more of a professional courtesy thing so long as he's working at the company (and they want to keep him happy.) When he eventually leaves, Ahsoka stays with LF and they'll do whatever they want with her.

The quality of this show is staggering at times. That was quite a finale, especially given how relatively 'quiet' it was compared to others, but the atmosphere, visuals and script made it a brilliant way to round off a brilliant first season.

I wasn't disappointed by the lack of reveals or plot progression at all, quite the opposite in fact, I didn't even think about it until reading a comment on here. The previous episode got all of that out the way, this was more introspective and I loved it.

Audio and visuals absolutely top notch as usual. Writing great, action great. Can't wait for season 2.

A quiet, more character based introspective finale that focused on developing the bond between the Batch. Fine stuff, and overall a great season. Looking forward to season 2.

As I understand the situation when Thrawn was introduced on Rebels, Filoni said using Thrawn was his right because of how the legalities work, but Filoni himself was such a fanboy he only wanted to use Thrawn if he could have Zahn's blessing.

Would be nice if that was mt Tantiss and Dave introduces it. So much to mine out of the Legends stuff.
Now introduce Mara Jade in boba or mando.. We have a game!

One of the Batch said they needed to leave before Imperial Scouts showed up. Apparently they expect the Empire to send a patrol back. This can easily explain Cross hair's rescue.

Now, what story does he tell the Empire that they will believe enough to allow him to remain in service?

Ah, good catch there. I missed that line.

Now, what story does he tell the Empire that they will believe enough to allow him to remain in service?
"My ability to survive demonstrates my value to remain serving the Empire."

Or something along those lines.

The big question then is what will he tell them about the Batch?
He could conceivably lie about their “demise” and get the Empire off their back for a while.
Might come back to. It’s him in the butt, obviously.
Or he tells them that they held him hostage or whatever.
I doubt he’ll say that they cooperated for mutual survival and then let them go without a fight.

Exactly. There's what they can do, and what they choose to do out of professional courtesy.
All hail Zahn. All hail Zahn.
Let's not go nuts. This is still the guy that thought doubling a vowel in a character's name was a good way to make it clear they were a clone...I mean "Luuke"? Seriously?

When it came to the old first wave EU authors, Stackpole was far and away the superior writer, with Zahn a solid close second, and of course KJA was as ever, the hack. Most everyone else just kinda floated around the middle.

I’ve not read any Thrawn books but from what I hear Rebels changed his character a little bit and made him more ruthless and bloodthirsty than what Zahn had/has in mind for the character.

I’m glad they’re playing the long game with Crosshair. It’ll make his eventual redemption (come on, it’s Star Wars) towards the end of the show all the sweeter.

I thought they handled him helping the Batch a bit in these past two episodes really well. Loved him joining the fight with the theme tune blaring in part 1.

In Zahn's books, Thrawn has a bridge officer straight up decapitated on the spot for a failure to adapt to unorthodox tactics. He was still brutal and cold blooded, he was just calm and polite about it. The only difference between how Zahn treats him vs Filloni is that Zahn is a little too enamoured with his creation and winds up making him a little too Gary Stu-ish. Filloni always remembered that he's supposed to be a villain.

He's not an anti-hero, he's a high functioning savant sociopath.
