Or if you're Kathryn Janeway. Her kids were able to care for themselves at the age of 3 days.
Well, given that how little she cared about them herself...they'd better.

If Gene Rodenberry started Star Trek today, he would be vilified for the miniskirts. The same miniskirts that Nichelle Nichols once described as a form of women's liberation.
For the record, I always thought they were ridiculously short and not suitable as a military outfit.
None of which would matter if the show was released today. The miniskirts were a liberation because of the prudish leagues that wanted women to be covered from head to toes and professed that the feminine body was evil and should be hidden from sight for that reason. They were a reaction to those reactionaries that blamed women for wanting to be more than homemakers waiting for their husbands at home. Pretty much the situation shown in Voyager's "Real Life" with the doctor's ideal wife...at his beck and call.
See kids drugs are not bad.

The 60's weren't the first time women reduced their dress length to show their liberation... post WWI, dresses (and hairstyles) were drastically shortened.
My controversial Trek opinions:
- Kirk's gold tunic was green.
- The TOS bridge is offset by 35 degrees
- Starfleet is NOT a military even though it kinda is
- And you can say FUCK in Star Trek all you want! Fuck it!

Some people want to look good. Some want to live comfortably. IDIC.I've seen women ardently defending shaving their underarms and wearing spike heels, too. I can't decide if they're brainwashed or if they actually like doing those things.

Of course they are. Both "look good" and "comfortable" are subjective. I know at least one woman that wears a Victorian style corset, as a back brace. My wife is sexy in a bathrobe and horsy slippers.
