Goddammit. Y'all better treat my boy right.

My girlfriend and I had a bonfire the other night and I was really, really tempted to toss my KB Cubs shirsey in it. God, fuck off, Ricketts and Hoyer. You cock-juggling goblins have turned me into a Brewers fan, for the love of Christ.

You'd have better results tossing Ricketts and Hoyer into the fire.

He's being treated really well. ;)

I'm beginning to think Hoyer is not particularly good at his job!

(Remember, the dude traded Anthony Rizzo to the Cubs for Andrew Cashner when he was the GM of the Padres.)

He was #2 to Epstein, but probably just the kind of yes-man Ricketts likes, so why not just promote him?

This is a random question that none of you have the answer for, but why does the MLB Network schedule live games that they join in progress when there are no games airing before?

As I am sure you know, most of that shit is way above his pay-grade. He ain't livin' in The Ricketts Penthouse or even on a roof-top across Waveland or Sheffield.

Damn, that's crazy. I hadn't heard about that, nor did I know that it was created by Henson's people. And of course the Phillies are being asses about the whole thing.

That said, that does make me wonder about mascot designs (and team logos) in general. For instance, imagine my surprise a decade ago when I went to a Hiroshima Toyo Carp game, only to discover that their mascot looked a lot like the Phanatic. But that doesn't appear to be a problem? Or the fact that the Carp's logo is just like the Reds' logo? Or the Chunichi Dragons' logo is the exact same style as the Dodgers?

maybe this is a stupid question, but...the Phanatic *was* created specifically for the Phils, wasn't it? So shouldn't they be able to do pretty much whatever they want with it?

Only thing I can think of is that there's little chance of confusion, since Japanese and American teams aren't in competition with each other. (So it's not like a Japanese fan is going to look at the Carp logo and think it's the Reds.) Thus there may not be any copyright issues at work here.

There is/was a lawsuit surrounding the Phanatic. The changes they made were to (try to) make it different enough to not have to pay for it.

The Phillies paid $215,000 to Harrison/Erickson in 1984 for the rights to use the Phillie Phanatic as the team’s mascot “forever.” The firm claims it can renegotiate those terms, as the Phanatic is worth much more now. A section of the Copyright Act allows creators of copyrighted works to renegotiate or terminate a licensing agreement 35 years after the initial agreement date, via bizjournals.com. This contract would be up on June 15, 2020.

Now we fast forward to August of 2019, where the federal law stipulates copyright of the deal made in 1984 can be renegotiated after a 35-year period, and in 2018, the Phillies received notice of termination from Harrison and Erickson. Harrison and Erickson have the right to terminate the contract if an agreement with the Phillies isn’t reached by June 15 and have threatened to make Phanatic a “free agent” because they have the copyright.

It's kinda like all those lawsuits over music lyrics...cuz everyone knows that nuthin' "ever" rhymes.

That motherfucking Yankees/Royals game…

Had to be 5 hours at least. Didn’t get back to my hotel room until 12:30 AM! I lost count of all the blown saves. :wtf:

And that one Royals reliever had, like, the greatest porn name in history:
