MLB 2021 season: Corn-Driven Humidity

Also, if somebody hits a dinger into the cornfield, how do they find it again?

When they bring out the combines/harvesters this Fall. Unless the corn burns up, due to drought, but I would bet a dime to a doughnut that there are sprinkler systems a working..

The ground hogs and raccoons might git' 'em first. ;) Unless the crowd goes out to look for 'em, and trample the corn down, but look out for leaf cuts--similar to a paper-cut:ack:--if they do.

Do you think Dyersville is in Bumblefuck, Iowa, or something? The game is being played 20 miles away from where I live right now, in Dubuque, a city of about 60,000 people.

Wait...why aren't you at the game?!

Because I didn't get selected in the ticket lottery (you had to enter for a chance to purchase tickets), and last I checked secondhand tickets were going for anywhere between $1,500 and $4,000.

Beyond that, eastern Iowa is getting its shit kicked in by COVID because of Governor Reynolds' order forbidding municipalities (and school districts) from issuing mask mandates and employee vaccination requirements.

Fair enough. At least you tried.

But it really sucks that you have one of the (many) shitty governors in this country regarding COVID. :(

I've never been to "I-oHH-Way" so how the Fuck should I know.

But growin' up on a farm in o-HI-o, I sure as HELL know what running through a corn-field is like, you have to throw up the corn leaves as you go.

Tell me about the last time you "surfed" on a hay wagon behind a square hay baler?

Pro tip: No one in the entire state of Iowa pronounces it like that.

I could, but I really don't care to, because this is a baseball thread, not a "how country-bumpkin-yokel are you" dick-measuring contest.

I believe I have said this before, although I respect your baseball knowledge...Fuck You ;)

You don't get around much. I know folks from Iowa.

And I've lived in Iowa for a little under half of my adult life, in-between growing up in Chicago and spending ten years in Wisconsin.

But, once again, this isn't a dick-measuring contest. So stop derailing the thread.

Perhaps you might deem to eventually respond to the pm I sent you over a month ago when we had a similar "dust up". If anyone has been having a measuring contest... look in the mirror.

Otherwise, I consider it over.

Chris Davis retires. Gives up $23 million for 2022, as well as whatever is still due from his $23 million this season. Surprised he didn't pull a Prince Fielder to collect it all.

Cubs cut Jake Arietta after he goes 5-11 with a 6.88 ERA in his return to Chicago.

From what I read, he will still collect those salaries.

The announcement from Davis comes at a time when he still has one year remaining on the franchise-record, seven-year, $161MM contract he signed with the Orioles in the 2015-16 offseason. That contract calls for a $23MM salary to be paid to Davis next year, and MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports he’ll still receive that salary (Twitter links). As part of the agreement to pay out that final year, however, he’s agreed to some form of restructuring, per Heyman.
