Sybok grew a beard because he used to wander a lot.... Drifting from place to place....
Hardly stayed among Vulcans :)
Spock always had his quarters on Enterprise or Vulcan ... where he benefited of plenty of warm water and a shaving kit of course, even had his own barber :)

I kept hoping there would be a scene where Garak had to say: “I’ve changed my mind! I’m going to let her die!”

No such luck.
Hadn’t he commandeered a runabout with Keiko O’Brian’s school kids aboard? I could have swore…

Growing a beard isn't inherently logical. Logic is a thinking tool. IF one's goal is less energy expended on grooming, then it would be logical not to shave.

Beards, however, are itchy and require care not to get nasty. So if one's goal were to be not itchy or have to expend care on a beard, it would be logical not to have one.

What are one's values/goals? Then we can determine if a course of action is logical or not, yes?

I have a beard, French cut goatee. A friend questioned it as being lazy, and Hell no. It is more difficult to shave around a goatee than to simply shave. You honestly need a beard trimmer or beard scissors. So a beard, unless we are taking full Mountain man is more work than shaving.

I don't shave my chest. I'm not a male model and I don't want to walk around like Jerry Seinfeld in the chest hair episode and scratching my freshly-shaven man boobs 24/7.

Where's the logic in shaving your chin but not your chest?

I wouldn't say having hair on your chest is a bad thing..... because as a man it makes you look masculine.
Someone would probably disagree and reply : well that was in the 70's my friend :)
I believe nowadays men should shave their armpits as well and "not only" - not to keep up with fashion, but mainly because it is healthier.... this way you sweat less and you allow ventilation to happen :)
Women as well ! :)
