News RUMOR: Whittaker potentially leaving

A prime example of how subjective these things can be. I'll grant you the pilot is stiff and awkward, and there is the odd slip-up in the series proper, but otherwise I think the dialogue is fantastic, and the cast uniformly excellent. It's a series I will happily lose myself in time and again. I struggle to understand why some people would think it bad, but accept they do. You can't please everyone.
The whole first season is hit and miss but by the second season, things improve greatly. I honestly don't have any issues with the acting for the most part.

...especially Claudia Christian. I thought everyone loved her!

He's also very good at interacting with the fans. :techman:
That he is! :D

A little, agreed, and so did I. Ivanova's a scene-stealing delight.

It occurs to me the somewhat heightened approach of the show and the acting might be putting some people off. It's perfectly fitting for the larger-than-life space opera Babylon 5 is, but certainly wouldn't be to everyone's taste.

It would also thus fit the sci-fantasy of Doctor Who, in my opinion, but again, same caveat applies.

This made me remember... Back in the day, I was trying to get a friend into B5 and loaned him my VHS/DVDs (I can't remember which). He complained to me the whole way through season 1 and I said "you need to see this to understand stuff later and Trust Me."

Right after watching the first ep of season 2, he called and was ecstatic and fell in love with the show. :D

JMS as the new show runner sounds good. Jason Stratham and Jo Martin both as new doctors and for the first time ever you have two doctors together for a season. Then add a teenage British girl as a campanion.

Adrian Lester as the Doctor. See if Pheobe Waller Bridge is up for a single season as companion, 1920s era gel. Contemporary teen male companion also… new actor, check RADA for someone promising. Twelve to fourteen 50 min episodes a year.
Torn on JMS as show runner, but could work. Sacha back as the Master, but reveals he is really the Valeyard and everything was a Matrix induced Lie, including Prisoner of the Judoon (explaining why it’s such a rip of smith and jones)
Season long arc in which Ruth Doctor is revealed to be a matrix figment potential Doctor who gained sentience to help out, she’s in half the episodes, and ‘regenerates’ into Colin Salmon at the end, becoming Doctor Moon.

Job done. XD (it’s like fantasy football league discussing Who sometimes.)

I really don't see either Mandip or John leaving (especially John, since he just joined the series), regardless of who the new Showrunner and Doctor end up being.

Ultimately it will be up to the next showrunner if they want any carry-over companions or a blank slate. Every modern showrunner has started with a blank slate of new Doctor and new companions when they started. As of this season, Mandip Gill will be the first of the modern companions to have done three full seasons, that means she'll have been with the show longer than any of the modern Doctors. I'll be very surprised if this isn't her last season.

As for John Bishop, so what if he's just starting? Pearl Mackie and Matt Lucas joined the show for Capaldi and Moffat's final season, which turned out to be their only one. Even in the RTD era, Freema Agyeman and Catherine Tate were only single season companions. To say nothing of Eccleston being a single season Doctor. I'm pretty certain Bishop is also gone after this season.
