The least disliked episode 2021 - DISCO Season Three

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Our addictive biyearly game of rapid elimination returns - now able to include Disco's third season as well as the debut years of Picard and Lower Decks. It's generally a lot of fun, providing a chance to mentally revisit those episodes you may not have thought about in a while. With that in mind, why not play again?

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

I've eliminated "Die Trying." There are some good moments in here but the dramatic crux -- Nhan's departure -- just doesn't do much for me. Adding her actress to the main cast for the first five episodes only for her to leave at the end of the fifth strikes me as one of the strangest production decisions I've seen from Trek.

"That Hope Is You II" because I was disappointed by a few things like the death of Osyraa for example that was a bit anticlimactic. Big villains deserve spectacular deaths.

The Sanctuary is a pretty dull episode. The Emerald Chain really took a while to get going as a threat this season, and visiting Booker's homeworld didn't grab me like a lot of the proceeding episodes.

"Scavengers" goes. It just didn't hook me like some of the others did.

"Far from Home" is a bit too far-flung for my taste. especially the Philippa Georgiou part.

Su'Kal

Su'Kal was a pretty bad reason for the burn and a planet made out of dilithium way too easy as a solution to the problem of dwindling dilithium resources.

I quite liked Georgiou as a source of dark humor since she joined the cast. I'm not sure she was entitled to a two-part exit episode though, so I'm losing part two.

"Forget Me Not", I was a little disappointed by Trill of the thirty-first century.

People of Earth - Boring. Really boring actually. Felt like Disco trying to do an episode of classic Trek, which has never really worked on this show. They’re much better suited to the serialised format.

That Hope Is You I
Unification III
Terra Firma I
There Is a Tide...

My favorite episode of the season has already been eliminated, which makes this a lot less fun. I guess I'll take out That Hope Is You I. It's okay, but kinda a brainless action piece and the casual murder of dozens of security guards by Michael really runs me the wrong way.

Unification III
Terra Firma I
There Is a Tide...

One episode is a great look at the Mirror Universe society, while the other is a great followup to Vulcans/Romulans and a great piece on what the Federation is about.

Because of this, by default, "There Is a Tide..." is gone.

Unification III
Terra Firma I

I liked Unification well enough and thought the Vulcan lady had a cool, TOS-ish costume, so it wins.

Ha! I came along at the start of this thread, wrote a post eliminating "There Is A Tide"... and then failed to click post. Can't believe it made it so close to the end!

There Is A Tide... was probably the peak of Osyraa, for me. It showed that she may have been more of a decent antagonist if the writers had gone the less predictable way for the Emerald Chain, and actually carried on with her search for talks with Starfleet.

100% agreed! That's a reason I hate the episode so much. That scene with her and Vance is incredible and should have been the story of the season. Vastly more interesting and more substantial than the Burn. The immensity of the wasted potential infuriates me.

Agreed. I was happy with the Burn staying as some old legend, that everyone eventually would be able to adapt to somehow.

I did sympathise with Su'Kal, and loved Saru helping him out. It just wasn't the most interesting story in S3, and shouldn't have been the linchpin in the season-long arc.

Die Trying?

Only checked this thread after seeing the "Final Round' thread - was a bit bamboozled by Unification III getting the top spot.

Forget Me Not. It was a fantastic episode, minus the 30 seconds of needless action which is quickly forgotten. It was the first case in Discovery where the emotional connections actually worked for me. I legitimately got a bit weepy with Adira's backstory in the A plot. Not The Visitor level weepy of course, but it made me feel something, which is really a first for Discovery. And the B plot on the ship was very well done as well. If only the entire season was smart character drama like that.
