I think He-Man success sort of depends on just how much appeal it has to newer fans. I assume also many people giving it a first time chance are younger Kevin Smith fans who want to watch it because they like Smith. Also is this something that will really appeal to newer fans and with older fans how many just like He Man vs those who care about the mythology. If you don't give a shit about Eternia or whatever that place is called then you might not care to give it a try. That's kind of me. I don't care about the mythology. I am somewhat interested in He Man and Skeltor simply because they look kind of cool but not really even that interested in them even on that level. Basically the show doesn't have much to offer to me because I don't care about Teela or the overall world. Thus I just prefer to watch other stuff. In fact even on the cartoon level I am soon going to be watching the Hellboy comic movies before they leave HBOPlus because that looks more interesting. Not sure why people if they don't like something just can't go watch something else instead of getting into all the drama. Except with Star Trek. That's different. Trek must never disappoint us ever or its a tragedy I say!

I like the guy and have nothing against him but he does often react to criticism. When 'Cop Out' got poor reviews from professional film critics Kevin Smith responded by saying what's the point of critics and the only people qualified to judge his films are the people who paid to see them. Now he has a backlash from Toxic fandom and he's making a mistake again by addressing them. Firstly, because he is addressing online Youtube channels that are just getting promotion and subscriptions by keeping this wheel spinning. Secondly, he should let the product/art speak for itself. That's all he needs to do. He doesn't need to answer to anyone. Netflix came to him and liked his ideas.

I just think Smith is use to almost being universally loved by the fandom and also kind of having a gentle spirit he probably does get upset with the backlash. Some people can't take criticism and they either act like a jerk back or they go the other way and just feel bad and depressed. Smith seems like the one who sort of let's this stuff eat at you. Which has got to make you feel bad for the guy right now. That's kind of how I tend to take criticism myself. I'm a more gets sad instead of mad in those situations.

Just watched it and thought it was quite good. I say that as someone who never had any strong attachment to the original show.

So the hype got me and I watched the first episode. When am I supposed to feel angry? I will echo what others said, it reminded me of the 2002 show, I like that because it felt there were consequences and the story is moving forward. I never had that with the 80s show. The 80's show was basically waiting for him to pull out his sword and say I have the power each week.

FINALLY finished episode 5 today at lunch. Loved it. My jaw dropped to the ground numerous times with some of the twists and turns, especially at the end. Very excited to see where this goes and am glad I have avoided the topic online to avoid any spoilers as it seems, predictably, people are over-reacting and this is their very first story where the hero "dies", apparently.

Unfortunately, my hype makes me see that I've got some figures I have to pre-order now... ugh.

I wonder if things will hinge on Lyn turning on Skeletor (for at least the second time). No doubt he will treat her like the underling he always did and she'll have enough.

Hmm since the series is called Revelations and He-Man's secret is out, maybe the next reveal will be Teela's magical abilities manifesting? Maybe even the ability to heal?

That's what I think, too. I think her "betrayal" was either a life-saving measure only in seeing where things were going, she's going to try to take the power herself so she's just staying closest to it or this is her way of helping the good guys ultimately. But I don't think she'll be on Skeletor's side by the end. Maybe she'll have her Darth Vader/Emperor moment at the end and either end with the good guys or feel she doesn't deserve to be on either side and go rogue on her own.

Or none of that and it doesn't matter, I'm so there for the ride!

There's an episode in the Filmation series called "The Witch and the Warrior" where Teela and Evil Lyn are forced to team-up. It ends on an almost identical note and it was a little disappointing that Revelation didn't go a different route. I'm also hoping that Lyn has a different agenda. The 2002 series also hints there's a lot more depth to her than she lets on.

Much more than that, I think. If her powers are anything like her mother's (the Sorceress), it'd basically make her a demigoddess.

I haven't watched this yet, but one thing I've learned with stuff like this in general is to not get pissed at the first half of a story like this, because more often than not the thing that pissed me off ends up being undone in the second half.
Hell, Kevin Smith already pretty much admitted that He-Man and Skelletor will be back in the CBR/Variety article posted earlier in the thread.
I'm gonna laugh if, after all this outrage, He-Man and Skeletor are back and take over as the focus of the series of by the end episode 6.

I doubt that would happen. If Teela starts as your lead it makes since to follow through and let her complete her character arc. Unless you kill Teela which would be gutsy and truly surprising though they would just find away to bring her back to life in season 2. Hasn't people figured out by now that nobody ever truly dies in genre tv/movies.

One of the main reasons I loved "Legend of the Galactic Heroes" so much. The dead stayed dead.

This said, I'm positive Teela gets to complete her story arc this time around. I'd be properly pissed if she didn't.
