What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

In "DEATH WISH", Quinn tells Tuvok that the Q to them are much like how Voyager would appear to cavemen. Basically, reaffirming one of Clarke's Laws.

I can see Trelane being a proto-Q.

Animated Star Trek is silly.

Historically, animated Star Trek falls under two categories:
* Cheesy (TAS, the two Short Treks)
* Comedy (Lower Decks)

...which can pretty much be equally defined as silly by some.

However, animated Trek will soon be joined by dramatic, albeit young teen focused, Star Trek. So it might not be so "silly" for long. Granted, I think most of Star Trek is silly, so it's hard to draw the line, especially if that line is supposed to encompass all or most animation and none or little of the live-action.

Star Trek is generally silly. These people run around in pajamas saving the universe. It is no different than most superhero comics.

That's like pointing to a pot containing hasenpfeffer and saying the Easter Bunny is simmering inside it... Now that's silly, not because the bunny population is higher than the tribble population...

MAybe but when I see Q's antics I have a hard time thinking of him as a superior lifeform like Deanna puts it.

Superior in some ways... inferior in others. But the episodes where he gets Picard to think outside the box and Picard manages it are still some of the best.

The Picard we see on "Picard" isn't the Picard we saw on TNG, but the Picard from the Kelvin timeline, who had some adventures that were identical, some that were similar, and some that were unique to him.

About Picard, Bashir would say: "Let him die as a man, not as a machine, if you put his mind in a machine the spark of life will be gone..." :D

A few years ago I suggested “updating” The Animated Series animation and make it more contemporary and fluid and I think some people here wanted to bite my head off.

I hadn’t seen TAS until I was an adult and while I was thrilled with some of the stories and voice actors, I couldn’t help but be distracted by the old animation style.

For example, I loved Masters of the Universe and GI Joe as a kid, but they’re kinda hard to watch now.

I don't believe that anybody wanted to bite your head off. It's just that among the evident minority of fans who care for TAS on any level, there's a split between those who would like to see the animation updated and those who definitely wouldn't. Those of us in that last category have our reasons; I've discussed mine before. That's all it is. Oh, and the odds of a professionally licensed or otherwise official effort to update the animation are effectively zero.

It's not old, it is cheap and bad. Far better was to be had even from Hanna-0Barbara. Johnny Quest style would have been just fine. So YES reanimate the sucker, or just animate it. And tighten the sound editing.

If TAS had fluid animation, people would pay attention to the phoned in voice work, done by people (mostly) inexperienced in voice acting and it'd crumble that way.

Plus any effort put into a reanimated TAS is most of the effort required for new animated Trek, and I'd rather that.
