WNMHGB Question

Gary was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force...
My god, it’s full of stars.

Besides the barrier most of have been made of microscopic objects measuring 1:4:9. ;)

What is this supposed to mean?

Sure, he'd be greedy and narcissistic and grow away from them, but to instantly look at them as insects and kill Kelso?

We really don't know how long this pilot takes in subjective time. Mitchell's power is "increasing geometrically," and Sulu uses doubling every day as an example, but it could have been a different geometric rate. The Stardate only goes up a unit or so, but since they are not at warp and this is an early episode, we don't know how much time that is.

Spock says that delta Vega is "a few light-days distant," but we don't know if their impulse power in this situation gives them .9 of lightspeed or .01. This episode could have (I'm not saying it should have) taken months to occur. Mitchell has plenty of time to cut emotional ties with his friends. Or stated a better way: the audience is left to assume the episode takes however much time the audience thinks it needs to, in order to believe that Mitchell no longer believes in his former feelings for his friends.

KIRK: "Earth bases which were only days away are now years in the distance."

That was the first five year mission right there.

But seriously, this episode could absolutely have taken weeks.

In my ST chronology, I have the episode spanning from May 24th to June 2nd of 2265. Once I placed it in May, I decided to give it the start and end dates of the shooting dates of "The Corbomite Maneuver" as a tribute. And one week seemed enough time, considering both the travel times and the exponential growth of Gary's power.

Thats funny - in Heroes season one I compared Sylar and his manipulation of his own body vitals to Mitchell, and by season 3 or 4 was calling him a Sith Lord with TK and electrokinesis.

The book also describes Luke as 18 years old, and Leia as 16. So much for "Twins."

My wife made an excellent point about the films. Lucas's wife, Marcia won an oscar for editing on the original "Star Wars"
She contributed greatly to the creation of the storyline. But, when they got divorced, he would have had to pay her for everything that she contributed. So, he rewrote it all.
And it's why he did the remasters - but said he'd NEVER release a cleaned up HD Blu-Ray of the ORIGINAL 1977 version of the film, because he'd have to PAY money to his ex-wife for it; and no for George the breakup wasn't amicable. (she got rights as part of the divorce settlement.)

I thought it was just a studio rights issue, that the first ovie had a differeny distribution company or something.

Actually, that was never said... It had been retconned in the movie 2010.
I don’t suppose you’ve read the novel, then; or enjoyed the bonhomie shared by like-minded people making agreeable, if subtle, pop-cultural references regardless of its fidelity to one’s preferred source material.

So, beam me up, Scotty. Because it’s elementary, my dear Watson. Judy! Judy! Judy! You dirty rat, you killed my brother!

Actually, I have read all four novels, 2001, 2010, 2061, 3001... In fact, I think I've read pretty all the novels of that author and others, I was president of the Sci. Fi book club in my college days for three years. It was sort of my duty to read all these books back then.

Play it again, Sam?

That sounds bogus, I'd like to see a solid citation for that. Whatever was included in the settlement she would still be entitled to, including revised versions of the movie. Making changes to a work can't be used to evade prior financial commitments tied to that work. Unless versions after a certain time were specifically excluded in the divorce settlement, in which case it wouldn't matter.
