Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

My main complaint about the Khan Character though, is that the writers/director/editor didn't play up enough the fact that for all his intelligence, he was still an emotional human being who was mad with grief over the loss of his wife (Marla McGivers)

Ironic, really, since when Khan first met McGivers, he basically treated her like shit.

The more I hear, the more I like. I like the half Federation, half new species group, I like that two are non-humanoid, I like seeing the Bikar make it from page to screen, I like the one or two cast members I actually know...

That alien city or whatever is kind of cool looking. Though what I'd like to know, things are clearly developing with this show, how much longer before a trailer or premiere date gets announced? Or are they whetting our appetites thusly in preparation for Virtual Comic-Con next month?

It's premiering on Paramount+, so presumably November 4th at the earliest (after Lower Decks' announced August 12th to October 28th run), unless there's some overlap. There might be, because it was supposed to be a Nickelodeon-first show, developed outside of the CBS AA scheduling plans.

The most recent pics show a stunningly vibrant production quality. Very rich visual imagery. Although, I have to admit that the city reminded me of Farpoint Station! :o

August 12 to October 28? I thought Lower Decks season 2 was only ten episodes? If so, their finale should be October 14.

Those are the dates off of Memory Alpha, which is based on old reports of it being a 12-episode season. Not sure if the 10-episode season has been confirmed or not.

On FB, David Mack confirmed they were going for a James Blish novelisation cover vibe. I think they got it right.

Shame space isn't really that rich and colourful.

Is it just me, or does it seem like little has dropped considering Prodigy is supposed to premiere within the next six months?

I mean, Lower Decks season 2 is out in less than 2 months now and we have seen a full trailer. Discovery season 4 has no release date yet other than late 2021 and has a trailer. Picard season 2 isn't coming out till 2022 and now has a trailer.

Presuming CBS doesn't want overlap, the only premiere date that works for Prodigy is October 21 - 11 weeks after LDS season 2 premieres. This lets DIS premiere in the final week of December, meaning three Trek series in 2021 - just barely. LDS-DIS-PRO won't work, since Discovery has more than 10 episodes a season.

Does Viacom care about overlap though, considering Prodigy is premiering on Nickelodeon? Or is it premiering on Paramount Plus now?

Someone says the exact same thing every time a new show or film is close to release.

Same exact thing happened with Lower Decks. The first image of the Cerritos (the movie poster one) dropped on July 1, 2020, with the first episode airing only a little over a month later on August 5. I think the same thing happened with Disco as well, but I don't care to do the research. Point proven. You want a full info dump a full 6 months before episode 1 airs? [McCoy]You're in for one hell of a disappointment![/McCoy] :vulcan:

So what you're saying is they drop trailers early for returning shows, but not for new shows?

Maybe for a new show, they want to save the bulk of the hype for closer to the premiere, so that it's fresher? Or maybe they just want to keep up anticipation by not giving things away too soon.

That seems to be marketing nowadays. Information is shared on a very limited basis until around 6 weeks before premiere and then it ramps up fully. The consumer attention span won't support it otherwise. So, yeah, doesn't surprise me at all.

Also, more fun for them is the fact that we, as fans, keep talking about it without them spending a dime.
