Spoilers Loki season one discussion thread

Just watched the episode and I want to go on record as loving this show. I'll rewatch it a couple more times before I comment further.

Mobius will eventually realize this

The only thing in your post I really disagree with. I think Mobius has already realized, hence the premise of the series.

But, the fun is in the journey.

and Hiddleston really knocked it out of the park.

I expected no less of him.

Oh BTW, for those that didn't get the D.B. Cooper reference; the bit where Loki hijacks a plane and parachutes out with the cash is a real thing that actually happened.

Yeah, but they kind of messed up as it shows the MONEY just blowing off into the wind - to eventually fall to Earth. The FBI should have recovered most of it, were that the case; but the only amount of the ransom money recovered was $6000.00 still rubber-banded together and buried along the Colombia river.

(I'm left wondering just what the 'bet' Loki lost to Thor was, where he had to do this? Also, it kind of contradicts some of th first Thor filn because had Thor/Loki been watching/meddling in Earth's affairs in the 1970s, Thor should have been more familiar with Earth customs and other stuff when he was banished to Tarth in 2011, )

Still, I liked this episode a lot, and they did a decent job setting everything up for the rest of the season.

Still, I liked this episode a lot, and they did a decent job setting everything up for the rest of the season.

They also had the jump happen in broad daylight and clear weather instead of night time and rough weather. But who cares? It was still fun!

I didn’t get the impression that Thor was completely unfamiliar with Midgard.
He has been there many times before.
But on an Asgard time scale over many centuries. chances are he was most familiar with Nordic ancient culture, recognizing him as the god of thunder.
Loki is the one doing the research on all things cultural and blending in.
Pre-banishment those details would have been beneath Thor.

I liked it. The retro vibe of the TVA did make it feel a little too much like the Commission (I know the TVA came first but I saw the Commission first). A lot of set up but I guess that was needed.

I was trying to remember where/when/what show or movie I saw that had something so similar. Was that Umbrella Academy?

Yup, The Umbrella Academy. A lot of similarities between the two but I don't care. I love them both.

Journeyman also did one as well. Another time travel show. I think he brought the money back but it's no good because people would be suspicious if you started using decade old dollar bills.

Oh man, I loved Journeyman.. Such a great show with lots of potential.

Watched Loki last night. From all the buildup, I was expecting more funny stuff, but it was absolutely enjoyable all the same. the DB Cooper bit only solidified my thought that Hiddleston would make a great Bond.

My wife, who isn't all into the MCU even enjoyed it. Not as much as the quirky WandaVision, but still.. If she liked it, it must be good!

I also thought it was great. I do wonder if Thor will make a cameo. Also will they ever show his ice powers again or address that stuff from the first Thor movie that they seem to have wanted to pretend didn't happen.

I was trying to remember where/when/what show or movie I saw that had something so similar. Was that Umbrella Academy?

Yup, The Umbrella Academy. A lot of similarities between the two but I don't care. I love them both.

I notice a lot of people citing 'Umbrella Academy', but that's just the most recent example of this kind of thing. As a general concept, it's been knocking around the genre forever. I think the real reason 'Umbrella Academy' seems so similar is mostly as they both make use of anachronistic technology and period aesthetics to evoke a certain timeless nostalgia while grounding the fantastical in banality.

Personally I feel like rather than UA being any kind of direct influence, they're both being influenced by similar, much earlier material. Indeed both of them positively smack of Phillip K. Dick to me, and it just so happens he did a very similar concept too.

Hell, one could say the likes of the titular MiB, Hellboy's BPRD and even Marvel's own SHIELD are also all dealing with some of the same broad concepts. That is at least in terms of a secret bureaucracy of sorts that monitors and deals with the utterly ridiculous things that go on in the margins of the "real world", but treat it all as the most routine humdrum thing ever.

I am surprised no one mentioned the Time Bureau from Legends of Tomorrow, which uses the same convenient CGI doorway. (And the men in black style dress code, along with the general concept).

Definitely interested in seeing where this goes

I think the anachronistic style evokes a steam punk vibe and I'm imagining these time bureaucrats originating after the effect of H.G. Wells Time Machine. But that's just my personal retcon.

Yes. Absolutely. I thought that was brilliant and a good audition for the role of 007.

Pretty conspicuous diss to Agents Of SHIELD there mentioning the death of Coulson and not teasing him that he didn't even successfully kill him.

This is sounding like the AOS-verse got pruned.

I liked the oblique Dr Who reference "You're that criminal with the blue box". I know Casey was talking about Tesseract, but the Doctor has been called the same thing many times also.

The TVA technology reminds me of the film "Brazil" and the old "Max Headroom" series- futuristic stuff mixed in with antiquated equipment. The end credits really drive that home with the montage featuring rotary dial phones...

Really impressed with the level of acting, even the secondary characters are well done.
