Well this is a surprise and not really a surprise at the same time

    https://news.tokunation.com/2021/05...der-saber-x-kamen-rider-ghost-crossover-71256

Tokunation got it wrong. It's not 12 episodes long. Toei announced that they'll put episodes 1-12 of Ghost on TTFC for free so that viewers can catch up if they missed it.

Surprise- Saber teaming up with Ghost?

Not a surprise- Both are from the same writer. Saber and Ghost fall into the same subgroup of occult-type Riders. Stories and famous figures.

We HAD to get back Kanon/KirameiPink before she slows down her acting roles/and or her agents won't let her do anything like this anymore

Kanon/Kirameipink version announcing the special. I wonder if they'll add in a KirameiPink nod

Apparently only 3 actors could come back from Ghost. Akari's actress retired, Onari's actor is now a model in the US, Alain's actor likely will never return due to being too busy / expensive

TTFC has uploaded Kamen Rider Decade episode 1

Cool. I liked Ghost a lot, and it had one of my favorite toku musical scores. That cue in the videos is maybe my favorite henshin theme of all time.

Oh, that's right, the same writer. And I see what you mean, though Ghost was anchored in real historical figures and Saber in works of fiction.

Also, they're five years apart, so it's sort of a minor anniversary.

They're also close in relative lack of quality.
    >_>

So far I'd say Saber is one notch more entertaining than Ghost. It's a very small margin though. I found Ghost's melodramatic moments in the other dimension with the family squabbling very uninteresting

Saber 33: A lot of exposition and revelations here. Luna is important because she "connects the worlds," and Master Logos created Sophia as some sort of clone/bunshin of Luna, though Luna still exists in limbo in child form. Touma and Kento finally have a good long talk over lunch (Touma brought Kento a bento), but Kento now foresees Touma's death if he plays along, so he still won't play along.

Ren and Desast are forming an interesting relationship, with Desast wanting to train him because he relishes a good opponent and Ren agreeing to follow his path so he can get stronger. Desast actually comes to Ren's rescue when Reika/Sabela tries to take his swords, in that under-the-bridge location they're using a lot this season.

And Yuuri reveals that Tassel/Viktor was defeated off-camera and is slowly regenerating. We haven't seen him in 6 weeks now, so I wonder if the actor dropped out of the show somehow and this is an excuse they've written in for a recasting. Although Sophia was missing for quite a while too and she came back. Maybe they're just going to bring him back with a different look/persona. He's had at least two already.

Zenkaiger 9: So Zox/TsuuKaizer and Flint have been added to the titles, and we learn their deal. They're World Pirates (Seikai Kaizoku, shortened to Kai-zoku using the kanji for the former "kai" -- I would've gone with Seikaizoku), meaning they travel the multiverse a-plundering, and they're more genuinely piratical than the Gokaigers they modeled themselves after, engaging habitually in petty thefts rather than just seeking the Greatest Treasure. (I'd love to see what the Lupinrangers, who steal for nobler motives, would make of them.) Although Zox still has a sense of integrity and pays up (after a fashion) when he loses a duel by his strict standards.

One more thing Zox has stolen is GokaiRed's catchphrase, though he's changed it from "Let's make this showy" to "Let's make this thrilling" (tsuukai).

The little Tsuukai robots, the Ohranger-themed Rikki and the Shinkenger-themed Kattana, are quite badly superimposed and animated CGI characters in most of their shots, though there are some shots where they're practical puppets. I really hope they can improve that effect as they go.

Very weird monster plot this week -- apparently it's a tie-in to the May 5 Children's Day holiday and its traditional food, kashiwa mochi -- a rice cake with sweet red bean paste, wrapped in an oak leaf which is symbolic rather than edible (although the cherry blossom leaves in the sakura mochi we briefly glimpsed are eaten, according to Wikipedia).

You might already know this, but If you have access to Tubi TV or Shoutfactory TV online services, you can watch all of the sentai that Shoutfactory subtittled on demand for free (with ads), instead of watching whatever episodes the Pluto Channel is currently showing.

Thanks I did find the tubi tv app which lets you control which episodes you want to watch.

I just saw this today. There will be a 3 episode Toku show that features a paraplegic hero

The main character is played by So Okuno (Sougo/Kamen Rider Zi-O), with other roles filled by actors from the likes of Ultraman Dyna, Ultraman Z and Tokusatsu GaGaGa. Real-life disabled athletes will also have some cameos.

Saber 34: A pretty major episode with lots of character conflicts converging in big fights, and a lot of plot revelations. The big reveal is the return of Kamen Rider Falchion from the short movie, a wild card who wants to destroy the world because he believes human desire for power will only bring conflict and betrayal. The movie itself was way too short to do any justice to its ideas; it had all the Riders debating their respective philosophies while they fought, but in brief sound bites. Here, we actually get Falchion's backstory explaining why he hates power, a tale of betrayal by a fellow swordsman tempted by power 1000 years ago, and we learn it was Yuuri who sealed him when he first tried to destroy the world. Now he's working for Master Logos since ML has his own plan to destroy everything (though Falchion's plan in the movie seemed far more immediate and less roundabout).

Also, Falchion wants to see Touma bring back Luna because she's the key to reassembling the book that created the world and can unmake it, or whatever, and Kento's getting a vision of Luna and Sophia (her magical adult clone, apparently) being involved in the summoning of that book (looks like). Meanwhile, Reika is hovering in the background watching this unfold, maybe having doubts, but still trying to fulfill her mission and please her big brother, who doesn't seem like the type to be pleased easily.

The big fight starts under the familiar bridge, then suddenly ends up in the familiar empty warehouse, then returns to under the bridge. Did it start raining in the middle or something? :D

Zenkaiger 10: Still going for zany humor while Saber sticks with intense melodrama. Still some worthwhile character conflict, as Kaitou and Zox clash over the latter's lack of concern for civilian safety in his fight with Tojitendo, which we learn is motivated by a desire to cure the curse that turned his and Flint's kid brothers into the little Super Deformed robot caricatures that give Zox his Ohranger and Shinkenger powers. Turns out they were cursed into SD form on the world of SDtopia, now trapped in one of the Tojitendo's gears. So Kaitou sympathizes with their desire to free their family while agreeing to disagree about civilian safety, with the Zenkaigers focusing on that while Zox pursues his vendetta.

The gimmick of the week about the monster imposing perpetual noon all around the world, so nobody realized how late it was getting and just kept getting sleepier and hungrier, was a bit iffy. Cute idea, but it kind of relies on the assumption that everyone tells time by the height of the sun and nobody bothers to check their watches.

We get another virtual set for Zox and Flint's ship, with a few real pieces of furniture surrounded by CGI, and I wish the virtual sets were less obviously fake and cartoony. I presume they're using so many virtual sets (this, the cockpit, the Zenkaiger HQ under the shop, the Tojitendo ship) to save money, but they've also spent rather little money on making them look detailed or physically real.

I would love it if they did some gag about that in a future episode/series

Kamen Rider- We can't fight today!

    Monster- What?!

*The Kamen Rider sticks his head out of the building to look at the sky*

    Kamen Rider- Rain is forecasted

Monster- Ah yes yes rain......Hey wait a minute!

I'm assuming that the COVID lockdowns are making filming a "Pain in the Arse".

That's not so much of an issue where studio sets are concerned, I think. My understanding (Samurai8472 can probably clarify) is that Super Sentai has been struggling in the ratings and/or toy sales and is thus operating under a reduced budget. I think that's why they're doing a season with so few on-camera lead actors. Virtual sets are another money-saving move.

And as I said, these particular virtual sets look much cruder and simpler than a lot of others. The quality and realism of CGI is very much a function of how much time and money is put into it, and COVID has little bearing on that.

Interestingly, that twitter's source was right about another Showa era Rider reboot getting made (which we now know will be KR Black Sun), they just got the year wrong, but thats probably because it was meant to come out in 2020 before the pandemic. So, that adds even more believably to Sentai getting less focus, although it seemed pretty obvious that it was happening just by watching the show.

I'm hoping that maybe Sentai can get a bit experimental with less focus on it financially. The last sentai that I really enjoyed was Lupinranger vs Patranger, which was definitely a unique premise for a sentai show. The mostly robot team this year is also definitely different, but I really don't like the cartoony tone of Zenkaiger, so hopefully they keep trying different things and don't get back into a rut like they did with the (in my opinion) extremely boring Ryusoulger and Kirameiger. I may not like Zenkaiger, but I'd rather have a bad show that trys something different then a boring, generic show.

That's quite a contrast -- a KR season that's gone very dark and tragic and a Sentai season that's about as fluffy and goofy as the franchise has ever been. I wonder how they'll make them work together.

The katakana are "ribaisu," so it rhymes with "device" rather than "crevice." I wonder if it's a portmanteau of "device" with "revive," or maybe "revise." Revise device? A time travel theme, maybe?

It's unusual for a lead Kamen Rider's name to be a made-up faux-English word like that. Usually when it's English, it's an actual word, except for Fourze (from "Four-Zero") and Ex-Aid (from "Extreme Aid," informed by ".exe" and "excite"). (Faiz is sort of pseudo-English, from "fives," but it's mainly from "phis" as in the Greek letter phi.)

It could also be a play on "revise", as in to do-over/make corrections. Would be quite fitting, for an anniversary year.

... it would also be fitting if it's good, coming after the lackluster book Rider.
