Except we already know the show is set 5 years after "Endgame," so it can't be that old.

The word "derelict" simply means "abandoned, deserted" -- the etymology breaks down to "completely left behind." It refers to any vessel or vehicle that's been abandoned with no intention of reclaiming it, whether it's an ancient shipwreck or a broken-down car someone left by the side of the road yesterday.

    I thought it was...
    1. Go down with the ship.
    2. Keep your shirt tucked in.
    3. Never leave a member of your crew behind.

Hey, I just got an idea. What if this show actually only starts in Delta Quadrant and these kids are transported to
Alpha? It would be reversed Voyager, it would explain "the uncharted space" thing and also that supposed leak about AQ alien characters and Okona.

A very young "derelict" starship, I expect, if a training holo based on Janeway's installed as part of the ship's software.

As I said yesterday, there's nothing in the definition or etymology of "derelict" that requires it to be old, just abandoned. I did a search for uses of the word "derelict" in Trek, and ENT: "Anomaly" used it for a vessel that had been abandoned for less than two days.

From what I remember of the Janeway character (Of course I only saw season 1 because after "The 37's" I couldn't take the way the show was written and bailed); Points one and three depend on how she feels that week. ;)

Maybe we need a more comprehensive list...
    1. Drink lots of coffee.
    2. Go down with the ship.
    3. Keep your shirt tucked in.
    4. Be unpredictable.
    5. Never leave a member of your crew behind.
    6. Find an unsuspecting ensign and ruin his Starfleet career for a giggle.
    7. If the transporter spawns a new lifeform, kill it.
    8. Remind your crew periodically that you can blow them into fifty million pieces with the ship's autodestruct... without a second command authorization.
    9. Delete the wife.
    10. Did we mention coffee?

This keeps it simpler and more affordable for Canadian viewers. I'm wondering if this was a consequence of the federal tax credits. If so, I'm happy with it.

True that. Though at this point I'm really starting to wonder why there's even a Paramount+ outlet in Canada. All their original programs are available either on Canadian cable channels or other streaming services and because of that are not allowed on Paramount+ in Canada. Also, there's a significant percentage of the stuff available on the American outlet that's not allowed on the Canadian outlet due to separate agreements and contracts done up in Canada. Paramount+ is literally the most useless streaming service available in Canada.

Which also begs the question, WHY was the ship abandoned/deserted? Implying that there's something wrong with it - it must be old, damaged, or both. Otherwise, why abandon it?

I think it's safe to assume that Prodigy is going to air on Amazon Prime in the UK, right alongside the rest of the Trek franchise.

Or throw them out an airlock. :shifty:

We'll probably be waiting a couple of months more for Prodigy then, so they can dub it, release it in one go etc. which now appears to be the precedent for how the Star Trek animated shows will be handled now. Animation isn't nearly as appealing internationally so there's little incentive for Amazon (who I believe only bought the rights for Lower Decks in select territories as opposed to global) to fork out for a weekly release compared to the live action series.

If Amazon (unless Netflix decide to show interest, after all it's a direct spinoff of Discovery) take Strange New Worlds no doubt it'll be released in a similar fashion to Picard, weekly within 24 hour of the US premiere.

Basks in Canadian, where all the new Star Treks, including Prodigy are on cable channel I'd had for years, meaning I don't need to spend extra money to see them.
IIRC, Lower Decks was a unique situation, in that because of the pandemic it ended up being released in North America before deals could be finalized in Europe. There's no reason to think the same thing will happen with Prodigy.

True that the event has messed things up though I get the impression that Amazon still would've gone with the "release the season at once" model, just maybe not so far behind the US.

Amazon hasn't said anything about Lower Decks S2 I think. Still it wouldn't surprise me if we end up waiting till the season is done in the US before they release the lot at once since they can't release any episodes till they're out in the US.

Prodigy seems like it would be handled the same. Probably a lot easier to market as a boxset you can binge-watch than expect viewers (particularly the kids) to keep up with it every week against all the competition.

Do they release any animated half hour shows weekly?
