MLB 2021 season: Corn-Driven Humidity

SoFi was the most expensive, by far, modern stadium at $5.5B, followed by MetLife at $2.03B. Spankee Stadium II is the highest baseball park at $1.82B.

How TF does this one manage to be $11-12B?

They tacked on a plan to re-develop the area around the stadium in like a six-block radius or something like that, somewhat similar to what the Rickettses did with Wrigleyville. It's an obvious ploy to make the deal unpalatable to the City and to Alameda County so they have more ammunition to leave and ammunition to use in court if they break their lease at the Coliseum (which runs through 2024 or 2025, as I recall) and get sued.

Did the Ricketts' plan include that kinda thing, or did they just react to Tunney's BS and start buying the rooftop buildings later?

I know the triangle building and Z were probably built in.

But...but...

(And I had to confirm this by looking at a map to make sure I hadn't gone insane)

The A's are closer to the Giants now than where they could potentially be if they moved to San Jose!
The Giants want the A's totally out of the area, and apparently MLB does too.

I've always found it strange that the bay area isn't shared territory like New York, LA and Chicago are.

The Rickettses formed a shell corporation and started buying the rooftop buildings like six months after the purchase of the team closed, and then some area reporters started digging and were able to connect the dots between the rooftops and the Ricketts family.

Turning all of Wrigleyville into their own personal palace came a bit later.

From what I've seen, the Dodgers as a whole this year have a slash line of .217/.312/.352 against LHP while Pujols has an .878 OPS against them. So he still has a little bit to offer.

His line vs LHP the last several years has been atrocious tho. The Cubs announcers mentioned it.

As a Cardinals fan, I kind of hoped he'd come home, even as much of a longshot as that was. Oh, well. Another reason to root against the Dodgers.

As a Cardinals hater, I figured he'd go back there, at least to retire as a Card. By far his best years were there...usually torturing my Cubs.

Yankees & Mets play each other in a couple of months.

Hope we finally get that Cole/deGrom matchup... :techman:

I'm glad the Cardinals didn't have space for him. Even though he's been gone from the NL Central for a decade, seeing a Cubs pitcher facing down that batting stance will always strike fear into my heart, because it was usually followed by a pitch being hit all the way out onto Waveland or Sheffield.

In other news, Corey Seager has a broken right hand.

"Corey Seager is finally healthy" didn't even last two full months of the regular season.

Sheffield & Waveland are a little harder to get to nowadays, but if anyone could do it.......

... it would be Glenallen Hill.

I haven't been to Wrigley since ... 2009, I think, so I've only seen all the improvements on television. I guess an ex-girlfriend and I drove past the stadium once last year (because she lived in Berwyn), but that was a "blink and you'll miss it" thing.

Glenallen got that rooftop shot, but Pujols would be more consistent at getting to the street. With the bleachers expanded out over the sidewalks, it just has to be hit further to make the street. It's happened a few times, but ball-hawking is a dying pastime there.

Yeah, I have PTSD of Pujols drilling meatballs from jobbers like Ryan Dempster or Shawn Estes and especially LaTroy Hawkins--Pujols fucking owned Hawkins--and them getting out of the park in about two seconds flat. Hence why if I see that batting stance at Wrigley again, no matter how old and broken he is, I'll be reaching for my tranquilizers.
