Bear McCreary is awesome, I put him right up there with John Williams, Howard Shore, Jerry Goldsmith, and Michael Giacchino.

 

Eternia is 'reformatted' to line up with "New Adventures"

 

4-issue prequel comic coming in July from Dark Horse. Written by Smith, Mattel's Rob David & Tim Sheridan, with art by Mindy Lee. The first issue's main cover will be by Stjepan Sejic, with a variant cover by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola:

To be fair, he's got two co-writers, so they should be able to keep the schedule.

 

Yeah, he's probably more of a plotter than the writer I'd imagine.
I'm definitely in for this one.

 

Knowing him and the way he writes, he probably wrote the outline with all the dialogue, Rob David (who is in charge of creative decisions concerning MoTU at Mattel, and has written a few of the recent MoTU comics at DC) probably went over it to make sure everything lines up with MoTU canon, and Tim Sheridan, being the one with the most experience at regular comics writing, wrote the final script.

The art style looks like a cross between the 80s series and the 2002 series.

 

Why did the EW writer spell it "I have the powah?" That's not how John Erwin pronounced it. There's a clear R sound at the end, just a bit delayed. Are they thinking of Dolph Lundgren in the movie? Did he even say that line? Or are they confusing He-Man with Schwarzenegger?

I've been skeptical of this project, but I admit it looks interesting. Aside from Skeletor and Adam, they seem to be sticking closely to the original character designs (though Orko looks more menacing, weirdly), yet with more elaborate animation and detail. I was puzzled why they'd want to make something for fans of the original, yet replace its original look with an anime style. It seems they're doing more of a hybrid, an elaboration on the original look.

 

I like that they went with the latters smaller Adam: it makes the secret identity a lot easier to buy.

Predictions:

- Skeletor (and possibly others) learn that Adam is He-Man

-Adam gets killed

- Eternia gets conquered by Skeletor

- Teela becomes the main heroe

 

I always thought that Adam and He-Man looked the same as a way for Filmation to reuse character artwork, but now I think it was probably dictated by the toys. I learned somewhere (in an article about the new She-Ra, I think) that all the figures of a given gender had to have an identical body shape to simplify manufacturing.

She's certainly up to it, but I kinda think they'd have to rename the show then, unless she turns out to be genderfluid...

With a name like Revelation, I suspect it will involve not only He-Man's identity being revealed, but Teela learning the truth about her parentage. I hope so.

 

Not all of them had the same body type, but it was certainly a cost-cutting measure that was used by both the toys and the cartoon.

 

So a continuation .. Clear up old plots.. Any good resource to get cought up on the old series ? Last I seen it was 35 years ago! So have no idea what happened in the series.

 

Adam didn't exist until the cartoon, though. Then again, if they went to Mattel with the idea, Mattel might have made the same body type a condition, but I doubt Filmation was going to argue with it, considering it would be beneficial to their budget as well.

This show is titled "Masters of the Universe: Revelations", He-Man is not in the title.

 

Yeah, I thought that was the case about Adam, but I wasn't sure how early Mattel got involved in the process. But anyway, both companies had an assembly-line approach that would've benefitted from repainting a single character design, so it worked for both of them.

Who exactly are the Masters of the Universe? I was never quite clear on that. The show never really used the phrase in-story, as I recall. I just skimmed through the series bible online, and it only had a passage with the Sorceress saying that if He-Man and his allies eventually won the battle against evil, they could ascend to reign as true masters of the universe. So it's more an aspirational thing than an actual group name or something. It's a strange title, but I guess that comes from the toy line being created and named before the storyline.
