Well, I normally hate his stuff, but this is the only one of his works I actually like. And it's my absolute favorite show. It's certainly not Family Guy in space.

I enjoyed aspects of Orville in spite of McFarlane. His humor can be OK but often just branches in to completely unnecessary gags that take away from the story. Orville had potential, but it is a mixed bag, at best.

I mean, I don't think it's anything like his other works if that's the problem.

Kirsten Beyer's novels have slipstream ships back in the Delta Quadrant four years after Voyager gets home.

    I'm liking this concept. :)

This is Star Trek. It's not going to be Paw Patrol or PJ Masks.

They should only be as popular as PJ Masks.

It will be interesting to see how it does. I expect that even if it doesn't catch on with the kids, the adults will eat it up because of Captain Janeway.

It was more the idea she'd be the face, voice and personality of the ECH-type-thing so soon after getting back. The Delta Quadrant bit just adds more unlikliness to the whole deal. But I guess we'll wait and see.

Why is any of that unlikely? As far as Starfleet and the Federation are concerned, Kathryn Janeway is the face of the Delta Quadrant. She's the most qualified person to head up a project to send a ship back there, she's presumably considered the Federation's greatest expert on the region, and she's the person who approved the development of the first Emergency Command Hologram protocol (see "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy" and after) and presumably spearheaded or supported the development of subsequent EH variations upon her return. So I can't imagine a more logical choice of persona for an Emergency Training Hologram on a ship sent back to the DQ.

I'm confused as to the problem. Janeway's experience would be mined from Starfleet Command for any and all procedural updates needed for starship captains to be effective. Janeway would be a prime candidate for training a new class of cadets, especially after the end of the Dominion War. Her knowledge and expertise would be invaluable.

Since this is apparently a derelict starship these kids find, I actually kind of hope the Janeway ECH is super-glitchy and one of the challenges they need to overcome is actually getting the program back on track. "Derelict" usually means "old" and/or "forgotten". It stands to reason it's been a long time since the latest patches were uploaded into the system and the whole core may be malfunctioning in critical (and potentially amusing) ways.
