The Official and Very Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread

Oh, @RJDiogenes , concerning both "hosts" getting Crow and Servo by there sides to riff, last night's "live stream" made it evident Joel is hiring not just Emily to appear in (I assume) half the episodes, but also the rest of the cast to reprise the roles for whom they auditioned and were hired. I did notice in that second KickStarter video, the one in which Emily was introduced, the two Crows conversing with each other did not sound like they were performed by the same person. Likely, one was voiced by Hampton Yount from the Netflix run and the other by Nate Begle from the "Cheesy Circus live tour".
Interesting. I'll have to go back and find that video. Now I'm wondering how they'll explain the presence of the alternate robots, because, if I'm remembering correctly, Joel built the robots to keep himself company.

He did. And the implication of the KTMA, Comedy Channel and Comedy Central years being that the four 'Bots were what he could cobble together with the limited equipment at his disposal.

Except we did see one or two duplicate Crows and a horde of duplicate Servos. How that was achieved is one of those "other science facts," I suppose.

Yeah, that's what I thought. And that's why he couldn't control the timing of the movies, I think.

Uh...I thought I added the "live stream" video for "inline" viewing. Is it not displaying for you? Maybe it was a "limited time" thing?
Yeah, sorry, it just says "Livestream Commencing Soon."

Ah...hah, ha! I see the issue! Skip the video to the 4:30 minute mark. The recording caught some "dead air". Joel pops into view around 4:40, then the "Cheesy Circus" gang one by one. They talk for roughly 15 minutes and then play a "short" called "Behind the Scenes at a Supermarket" which they riff. they talk a bit more afterwards and finally start "Hobgoblins" around the 44:44 minute mark after a brief false start with audio difficulties.

I myself sat there for roughly 10 minutes with nothing happening, but I didn't realize they "captured" some of that "dead" time.

Sorry for any confusion.

I've found that's pretty normal with recordings of livestreams, since live events rarely start exactly on time. Apparently nobody bothers to edit them and they just dump the whole video onto YouTube or wherever as soon as it's over.

Okay, similar situation, video has about 5 and a half minutes of "dead air" before the first "Zoom" participant appears. so skip to the 5 minute, 30 second mark.

Joel Hodgson and his team held another 'live stream" last night to gather interest in the MST3K KickStarter and will continue with daily "events" until it wraps next Friday. The movie was "Untamed Youths" from the first "Comedy Channel" (before it got rebranded as "Comedy Central") season and the "hook" was gathering the various people who have performed "Tom Servo", all of them from J. Elvis to the newest, Conor, except the arguably most "definitive" and "longest serving" Servo, Kevin Murphy, who was absent. One might suspect a "falling out", but he did do a "cameo" for the NetFlix series in his full "Professor BoBo" gorilla makeup. So I have no idea what was going on.

Joel announced in the Livestream today that Mary Jo Pehl is returning as Pearl Forrester as part of the regular cast for season 13, as well as a writer on the show.

He also announced in today's update email that the riffing will be recorded real-time with the whole cast together watching the movie, just like the three online shorts they released last year. Those had much improved riffing pace and style over seasons 11 and 12.

To say I'm super super hyped is an understatement. The relaxed Midwestern vibes of the OG show are a huge part of the appeal for me and they're bringing it back in force. I'm insanely psyched.

Last night's "live stream" was "Quest of the Delta Knights" which brought together several of the "Mad" Ladies, Mary Jo Pehl, Felicia Day, Rebecca Hanson and Yvonne Freese. Felicia hammed up proceedings with numerous "filters" changing her appearance, but Mary Jo inadvertently stole the show when having trouble with her connection (the audio) and grew so frustrated as to "double barrel 'flip off'" her computer, the visual portion transmitted to everyone watching the feed at that moment! Poor Pehl was so embarrassed afterwards, fearing fans may have misinterpreted her actions as giving "the bird" to them rather than an obstinate machine.

Not as much "dead air" at the start this time, with the first "Zoom" window appearing around the 2:40 minute mark.

From what I understand, as soon as the KickStarter completes, Joel's team will start working upon them. The members associated with the "Cheesy Circus" live tour are committed to "pick up" where they "halted" when the lockdown started, so Joel wants to start episode production right away while that group is still available. This will mean there will cast members recording remotely, on their own, with the Hosts and 'Bots "composited" for some of the sequences. Arguably a "turn off" for some fans, but it's either that or wait a truly unknown amount of time for the pandemic to "ease up".

Anyway, here's yesterday's "live stream" with "Gamera vs Guiron", the episode that gave us the infamous "Gamera" theme song, describing him as being "filled with turtle meat" as well as the character "Cornjob" threatening to shave little kids' heads!

Joel was not present for this one, as he was resting before the final week of the fundraiser. But we did have Jonah Rey, Matt Mcginnis, Conor McGiffin, Hampton Yount and Nate Begle. Conor is definitely the giggler of the bunch and his laughter is infectious!

Try to get through this one, either again or for the first time.

Two birds, one stone. Shared with friends yesterday for "May the Fourth", distributing the silliness today.

Yes, I purposely made it look as though they are watching a substandard print with "grain", scratches and soft focus. Maybe it's the unaltered, May 1977 cut! And, yes, Crow is totally "missing the point". :brickwall:

(I originally planned to use that famous publicity shot of the Droids, but I needed 3PO on the other side so "Joel/Mike/Jonah's" hand is pointing at good ol' "Goldenrod'. So I opted to stage a render with 3D models I had on hand.)

I had hoped somebody else might have posted before now. But since the forum rules allows me a "second post in a row" before I breach etiquette, let me announce that...

Not only did Joel Hodgson's team reach their final officially stated "stretch" goal of 5.5 million nearly 13 hours before their deadline, they managed a whole additional million, yeah, 6.5 million just before the campaign "closed" at 11 PM Eastern! That mean 13 movies to be riffed, 12 "shorts" and assorted (as yet an undetermined number) of "live events"!

It was a bit ironic, when the "final countdown" live stream started at 6 PM Eastern, the idea was to motivate fans to pledge enough to reach that 5.5 million goal before 11 PM, but they had already reached it some 10 hours earlier. So, they "upped" their angle, 6.5 for a 13th movie, honestly thinking they would not make it, and yet they did. Now, some "high roller" logged into their "Zoom" connection during the last 15 minutes to donate either 25 or 50 THOUSAND dollars in a single lump sum! If not for this fellow (I have no idea who he is), they would have just missed that 6.5 mil' mark. But with that donation, they just squeaked by.

Reaching 5.5 million means Joel will slip into his red jumpsuit and riff 2 movies with Bill Corbett and J. Elvis Weinstein. That would have meant the remaining 10 would have been split evenly between Jonah and Emily. With a 13th movie promised, I'm not sure what the plan will be. There's talk about Emily and Jonah "sharing" that 13th selection. Question is, will we see 2 Crows and 2 Servos in silhouette?!

Did they confirm that last part? I had assumed going into the Livestream of Werewolf that they would announce Bill returning, but they didn't, and I haven't heard anything else about Bill and Weinstein from the final countdown stream.

I thought I read that in one of the "updates", but I may have confused it with posts made by fans within the (nearly 20,000 entry) comment section. But the fact they did have Bill and J. Elvis participate in live streams but not Kevin, Trace, Frank or Mike does give the impression they may be willing to appear in the show itself. I mean, somebody has to riff with Joel for his episodes.

I apologize if I made it seem a "sure thing".

Bill has confirmed he is not returning.
