The Fall of Joss Whedon

I think Rick Berman and Branon Braga in their career prime would've more likely gotten dragged through the mud, ala Singer and Whedon, as well. It could already be yet to happen, as #MeToo runs out of lower hanging fruit.

Monsters like Spacey, Rose, and Lauer

Forgive me for asking, but who is disgraced performer Rose?

Joss Whedon is not quite down there with creepy, creepy, creeeepy Woody Allen (who already had his rep destroyed over an adoptive daughter decades ago, EEewwwwwwww) but he sounded like a domineering, megalomaniac hard ass.

Hard to say, the allegations against Berman have been out there for a few years now, and he's even admitted to them, but there haven't been any consequences for him. Braga there's no evidence of any misconduct on his part, just a questionable judgment call of dating a woman while he was her boss.

Berman definitely. Ryan, Farrell, and Crosby have all said plenty about him.

But I don't remember anything about Braga other than he's kind of odd.

Gal Gadot confirms Joss Whedon threatened her on the set of ‘JUSTICE LEAGUE’. “He threatened my career and told me that if I did something, he'll make sure my career will be miserable and I just took care of it on the spot.”

Apparently she gave the interview in Israel so perhaps felt more comfortable talking about it there.

Not that the Joss Whedon 'behavior' hasn't become more well known in recent years. We saw with him getting pulled from the Nevers.

Could have probably done this on a different board, but with Joss Whedon having such an impact on SF&F both in TV and film.

I wonder just how much this effects not just him, but his company moving forward. I would guess Firefly does not return(even if it was pretty unlikely to anyway). Buffy reboots probably unlikely.

Yeah his career is finished. His silence in the face of all these allegations has made it worse. Goes to show people just because youre a boss in a company or movie on this case it doesn't mean you can be a total prick. This goes for any job but hollywood is different because of the nature of the work. Oh well his stuff was getting repetitive anyway.

Dollhouse is, interesting, and Firefly was more of a fascinating/entertaining failure than a proper solid franchise like Buffy, etc.

Interesting, what have they said about him? That's an explanation why Crosby stopped wanting to be core cast member before even S1 wrapped

Also I heard rumours Jolene Blalock fell foul of either Bs behind the scenes on ENT, her complaints were settled quietly in a law suit, and she may have been blacklisted.

Charlie Rose—former PBS and CBS interviewer. Had a late night show on PBS and interviewed an eclectic set of people, from international leaders to Hollywood types to literary figures (famous and lesser known) and people from many other walks of life. I was quite envious of him for the job he had. Have to say I didn’t see that one coming.

It may not be legal incest but it's damn creepy and makes Woody look like a giant asshole. So...yeah.

It’s creepy because of the age difference, but it’s still not our business.

The only good reason against incest is the risk of deformity. Everything else is just an antiquated taboo. The only one left you can still discriminate against.

Shelbyville was right!

I don't remember where it was, but I once read a very incisive critique of Dollhouse as a vehicle for Whedon's own misgivings and self-loathing about his career. Stuff about how the setup was roughly analogue to the entertainment industry, where beautiful young people are promised riches if they subsume themselves into carrying out others' fantasies, Whedon as the tech character, molding the dolls in to what the audience wanted, but being powerless himself in the face of the management and the money people. I think it also pointed out how damning the subplot of one episode where, as a birthday gift to himself, he imprints a doll to be his friend for the day, in light of the allegations that started coming out later.

It was probably either a post on Tumblr or a comment (or maybe an article, but I'm leaning comment) on the AV Club, both of which are pretty well Google-proof.

Pointing out fact versus myth isn't "being an apologist".

It comes down to whether or not one believes Dylan's story. The case was dismissed because prosecution wasn't willing to put a child who had been allegedly raped on the stand--that was the lack of evidence. Since she started speaking out as an adult about ten years ago, she is not backing down. It ultimately comes down to does one believe Allen or Dylan.

As of now, more and more people are believing Dylan's story and people are just refusing to work with him. He is still a free man and he still makes money from his existing catalogue which is extensive--so no one has to feel sorry for him at this point-- but to paraphrase Levar Burton, we now live in a consequence culture and people who have never had to be held responsible for their actions before, are now being held accountable.

As for Wheadon and his work, I'm still a fan of Buffy and Angel, I like Firefly, and I like the Avengers movies and that's not going to change. There are a lot more people involved in those productions that Wheadon himself and why should all those people pay the price for his actions?

Creative folk are that way because they’re boundary pushers sadly. My Dad was a good hearted but simple man.

Decency should go with creativity...but that isn’t always the case.

There are times when I wonder...if something like the Riverworld deal ever happens...would anyone get a second chance....

I was referencing the judge's ruling and comments in the custody case involving Allen and Mia Farrow, not the criminal inquiry into Dylan's accusations, which was a completely separate thing.

With regards to said inquiry, however, it is my layperson's opinion that the explanation given for why Allen wasn't ever charged with molestation was an excuse and that if there was in fact evidence against him in the case, prosecutors would have brought charges and then found legal avenues of keeping Dylan from being further traumatized during a trial.

With all of that said, my broader point in stating the facts as I did remains, which is that describing Allen as "an incestuous child molester" is not factually accurate from a legal standpoint or in terms of what incest is described as being.
