Donny's Late TNG Era Interiors

That carpet texture is really convincing!

So no versions of the Ready Room and Obs Lounge?
Actually, now that you say that, I will do an INS version of the Ready Room, but for the Observation Lounge I'll just be doing the FC version (we don't see the Obs Lounge in INS, except as a banquet hall) and like I said before, I'm not doing any Nemesis sets. The Nemesis Obs Lounge really bothers me anyway because it doesn't connect properly to the bridge anymore.

Now I'm intriqued to see the Senior Officer's Mess, and the Officer's Mess!
While I do want to eventually realize those two unseen sets, keep in mind the directory is just placeholder text, and I have no immediate plans to create a majority of the rooms listed.

Waste not you have more money for paying stars.
Compared to other genre movies of their time, the Star Trek films — at least TWOK through FC — were made relatively cheaply, so reusing sets and VFX shots was fairly common. And outside of Shatner and Nimoy, and Stewart and Spiner, I don't think any of the other cast members were getting huge paydays.

Didn't realize just how MUCH they borrowed from the Ent-A bridge sets. Nice catch on the turbolift. Hadn't really given it a hard look before.
I hadn't realized until seeing these screenshots that that was actually carpet on the wall. I always thought it was wallpaper with a tacky pattern like you would find in the Best Western hotel room bathroom in the 80's. But thinking about it from a production perspective, carpet was probably needed to cut reduce echoing. Even then, the carpet probably only did so much - I wouldn't be surprised if they had to ADR most of those turbolift scenes anyway. As I recall, the TMP-TSFS version of the turbolift had carpet foam along the walls.

They had carpet on the turbolift walls in TNG, and Shatner wanted Zimmerman to bring the TNG aesthetic to TFF, so carpet on the walls it is. ;)

Amazing job Donny. Love the ambient sound mix. Is that the TOS sound of the view screen lights I hear in that mix? Was that actually part of the sound mix used for the Ent-E bridge, or did you sneak that in there?
I kinda wondered that as well. I know it's in the Enterprise B mix in Generations.
Honestly, I'm using the sound mix from Elite Force 2 in the video. I dunno if the TOS sensor ping was used in any of the films or if it was added by the EF2 development team, but I like the callback.

..b-bu-but the sconces!

No way! The TNG turbolift also had carpet? I’ll have to go back and look more closely. But it is sounding like a sound thing:

on a separate note - where the heck was that turbolift car in TATV from? That didn’t look like any of the TNG or movie cars.

That's actually the original TMP turbolfit, but redressed and modified several times as stated before. It appeared very close to that in the deleted turbolift scene in Nemesis. In Nemesis, the turbolift had additional "segment" struts added to it between the existing support struts. The ceiling of the TATV matches the ceiling that was present in GEN onward, and the red alert indicator is in the same place it's been since TFF. However, the rail and main display have all been removed.

But damn. It's so obvious that it's NOT the TNG turbolift :D

Yep, from the very beginning. There aren't a lot of good shots of the turbolift interior from the first couple episodes, but this one from "Where No One Has Gone Before" makes it pretty obvious what the wall is covered with.

Donny beat me to it, but the giveaway that it's the movie turbolift redressed is the Red Alert light (they took out the cutaway LCARS but left in the alert flasher?) and the lights around the ceiling. Compare that with Donny's renderings of the turbolift interior.

Probably looks like this Mess in a deleted NEM scene:

I didn't realize until I looked at one of the set diagrams posted in this thread that Data's wake takes place there, as well.

Ah, I'm just too hard on myself. I've got to remind myself I'm still learning the ropes of AE (and 2D motions graphics as a whole), and it's gonna take time as I get used to how to do things. My goal was to get four displays done today, but I'm happy with the two I got done. The "Data Analysis" one was a lot of fun! And yeah, I did a 5 hour tutorial session one evening last week, which walked me through a lot of the basics of 2D motions graphics and After Effects.
I’m trying to find a good tutorial for UV mapping and I’m willing to bet your tutors probably have one. Where did you watch this course?

what I want to know is what happened to the TNG turbolift. Seems like they wouldn’t have just gotten rid of it. After all, they held onto those TMP ones. Maybe it went to Voyager?

and while we have referred to the TMP / TFF /INS turbolift in the singular there were at least 2 of them. We get a view of both in TMP when Kirk orders crew to clear the bridge, and in TUC when Enterprise rendezvous Kronos 1 - We see the other turbolift with Spock and Valerie inside from inside Kirk’s turbolift.
Makes me wonder if only one of those had the ship diagram and all the markings to be the “hero” prop. Would explain the more simple look for the one in NEM and TATV.

Pluralsight.com. It requires a subscription but their tutorials are top notch. I usually subscribe for a month at a time if I need to learn something new.
Oh, awesome! I didn’t know that they also had media content creation videos. Thanks to my software engineering day job, I already have a subscription to their service. Thanks Donny!

Here's the finished "credits" monitor display, looping 4 times. You might have to pause to catch your names ;) I needed names to fill in the last page so it didn't feel blank, so I included some of the more prominent members of the art department during that era of Trek (as they deserve thanks), plus a few like MJ and GR that just HAD to be included.
