News Coronavirus Pandemic Information and Support Group

Oh, and the third wave is now apparently "completely out of control" in my home province. My region is moving from orange to red zone on Tuesday. Sounds like the next few weeks are going to be rough.

Yep, it sounds like Ontario might be headed towards a full lockdown from the sound of things. My region is already in grey/lockdown and has been since the beginning of March after opening for two brief weeks in February after having been in lockdown since Dec 26.

I was more meaning that it just feels so never ending that it threatens to overwhelm me at times so that it doesn't feel like there is a way out, or even if there is that I've descended so far into a pit of depression and despair that there might be no getting out of it.

Personally I've tried to avoid the news as much as possible, just so I'm not left completely numb to any sort of sensation once more.
*hugs*

I took a break from the news after awhile. When it gets to the point where you feel like throwing a nerf brick at the computer screen in the hopes that it'll knock some sense into whichever politician is blathering away on the other side, it's time to take a break.

I now have an appointment, though not for another 3 weeks (the soonest I could manage). Those friggin' pharmacies need to keep their status updated on the government website. If you're booked to the point where you're not taking any more appointments, just say so, so people won't waste their time calling or trying to book online.

Have not had my first jag yet but for the 3rd time i see the UK continues to be a haven for complete stupidity as the lockdown is eased and the cretins once again start up with the same stupid practices of throwing caution to the wind and heading is huge sways to pubs, parties, raves, the beaches, shopping, basically everything they were asked to do with caution and which lead us into the last lockdown.

I suspect it's not just the UK as there is plenty of stupid to spread around. Sure I can understand peoples desire to get back to some sense of normality but the more people ignore the recommendations the longer it'll take for us to get back to normality.

The third wave continues to worsen here. We have been setting new daily records for new cases and for ICU admissions. In response, on Friday, the provincial government extended and tightened the restrictions again. One of the new measures was to give police the authority to stop any driver or pedestrian, at random, to justify why they were outside of their home, on threat of a fine that started at $750.

Needless to say, there was backlash: from the medical community, legal experts, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the general public... oh, and the more than thirty municipal and regional police forces from around the province who announced that they would not be using these new powers.

By Saturday, the government walked back the new rule, and said the police will only be able to stop you if they have reasonable grounds to suspect you are participating in an organized public event or social gathering.

Meanwhile, the government still refuses to shut down large workplaces that are driving the majority of the spread, nor provide provincial paid sick leave to allow people who can't work from home to take time off if they are sick.

Yep, an ugly and intense battle with the 3rd wave. More of the restrictions include no travelling between Provinces, and no camping. Well, not that I'd be camping right now, but we really need to get this under control.

Just wanted to say this; the reason I haven't been posting lately is because.....I contracted Covid in late March. I've been in the hospital for 2 1/2 weeks, I've recovered, and am now home (although I can't walk normally-my heart speeds up, so I can't walk more than a few feet-and need an inhaler of a drug to be able to breath well enough to walk, so my recovery will take time.)

A Sad "like".

Hoping that you will be better soon.

That's terrible. I hope your symptoms improve quickly.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Best wishes to you, and I hope your recovery progresses quickly.

There are reports of fully vaccinated folks getting infected with Covid-19.
That shows that vaccinated people still need to be careful.

It's important to remember that it has never been claimed that vaccination will prevent you from contracting COVID-19. The point is to ensure that if you do contract it, the infection will be less severe, and won't require hospitalization. (Although in some rare cases, that will still happen anyway.)

And of course, there are also the variants. If I remember correctly, the current vaccines are supposed to be effective against B.1.1.7, but last I saw, there was still some question around their efficacy with the other variants.

I know the feeling. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
